I understand that this is sarcasm, but it DOES qualify as a phobia. After all the dislike for homosexuals is caused by the fact that they are different, and people are scared of them because they are different.

nah thats not really how they think
1 up, 4y,

Being scared of things that are different is human nature. There's no getting around it.
Homophobes are just people that can't get over that fear and hate on people that are different to hide their fear.

their not scared of them. they don't like them

No it's not.
It's like saying the Nazis were racist towards Jews because they were scared of the Jews, which is true.

People aren't scared of Gays they don't like them.

The distaste for homosexuals comes from fear.

Yeah. I’m scared for the homosexuals who will burn in hell if they don’t turn to Christ. And plus, I will never once treat a LGTBQ+ person any different than any other non-Christian. I will try to convert them and inform them of their sin. I would do that to literally anybody on the planet.
2 ups, 4y,

yes
0 ups, 4y
There's no common sense in telling people to burn in hell because they're not generic, mass-produced Christians that think everyone that's different than them is a sinner.
0 ups, 4y
(replying to other person) Part of being a Christian is accepting that you are a sinner.
2 ups, 4y,

Ah, so you're a psychotic religious maniac.
4 ups, 4y
no. he has common sense
0 ups, 4y
that’s not really a good argument. It’s just an insult and doesn’t mean really anything.

I never said that I would tell them to burn in Hell. I said that they will if they do not turn to Christ. You, not I, are the psychotic maniac. You claim to be Christian, but clearly do not read the Bible. You are calling me a “mass-produced Christian” when clearly, you are.

You're right.
All sexualities are mostly based on lust, which is a 'sin'.
Including heterosexuality.
[deleted]
0 ups, 4y
Well, think of it this way. Lust causes adultery, we can probably all agree on that regardless of culture or religion. And adultery makes the one that is being cheated on angry, depressed, and many crappy emotions. So lust is bad regardless of religion.

The reason for the rise of atheism and agnosticism is the rise of horrible people. Even in these last decades. In the 60s, if somebody cheated on their wife, their neighbors wouldn’t hang around them. But today, it’s such a common thing that it just loses meaning.
0 ups, 4y
In all honesty, lust is neither good nor bad.
It's human nature to feel lust at one point or another.
And adultery is only done by people without strong wills.

Oh. Sorry about that. Well, as I have said before in an other argument, homosexuality is about lust. It’s all about the body, and that certainly isn’t good. Bisexuality is being “attracted” to both genders, while being pansexual is about liking the person for who they are. So, all but pansexuality is about lust of the flesh. But, you should love all as they are yourself, and your spouse more. The thing is, people today are either so filled with hate that the second they really like someone they think it’s their soulmate, or they have never even heard of non-romantical love.

he didn't tell them to burn in hell tho he said he would try to save them
2 ups, 4y,
2 replies
By 'save' them, you mean 'convert them to his universalizing religion that STILL treats anyone that doesn't share our beliefs as a second-class human'.
2 ups, 4y
That's not how it works, if you don't wanna believe in Christ so be it. he is not Forcing you but allowing you to make a choice if you don't you just don't
1 up, 4y
if anyone is doing that, it’s the left, who wants you to get fired for not sharing their beliefs and ruins people’s careers because they diverge from the “popular mob”. Good Christians would never treat non-believers as second class humans. I have known Christians that would do that, but I don’t right now (because I’m in a good church). It is not the only type of Christian.

I do believe in Jesus. He was a real person.
He just wasn't the son of a god.
2 ups, 4y
That's where you're wrong. He was the song of God and he is God, it says so in the Bible.

The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit

Nothing in the Bible can be confirmed, so it is not evidence of anything.
1 up, 4y
You cannot confirm Jesus isn't the son of god

And you cannot confirm Jesus IS the son of god.
1 up, 4y
Exactly so it will never be known.

That is just something i believe in
0 ups, 4y
In reality, no one can actually prove that Jesus was a real person, or even who they say he was. I believe in Jesus or God, because of prayer. But that doesn't mean I believe EVERYTHING that they/he did.
1 up, 4y,

People CAN prove Jesus was a real person.
We found Roman records that prove the existence of Jesus.
0 ups, 4y
Lmao, not exactly "proof" there. Anything could be fake or just completely made up.

I know, i didn't say he wasn't a real person

They weren't scared of Jews.
There were many ethnic groups they attempted to eradicate because they wanted to be a pure nation.

Hitler blamed the Jews for what happened to Germany because Hitler was irrationally scared that the Jews, who were more successful at the time, were going to 'take over'.
1 up, 4y,

True.
But it's also because he believed Jews were the most impure of the ethnic groups.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
True, but that's because they were the most successful, and therefore the 'worst'.
And truly, why do we even care what Hitler believed? He was so stupid that he made a 'master race' that didn't even include him!

No he wasn't. He used an aged old ploy of dividing the country and providing a scapegoat community that everyone could blame. The Jews were a perfect target because there was already a dislike for them. He didn't fear them at all...in fact, he was part Jew himself.
1 up, 4y,

No it isn’t. I have an irrational fear of heights. I’m not scared of heights because they’re “different.” I’m scared because I think I’ll die.

You just said that it isn’t about “fears in general”
So even if I was scared of homosexuals, don’t call it a phobia.

Why don’t you call it “homo-ist”? You know... kind of like “rac-ist”?
1 up, 4y,
2 replies
Okay, since you're too dense to understand, let me explain.

Fears that are about types of people are the kinds of fears caused by the aspect of human nature that makes us scared of things that are different than us.

Fears about other things are caused by an irrational belief that they're going to hurt or harm you in some way.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Again, if that’s actually what you believe, then don’t call it a phobia. You’ve already told me that it’s a different fear from regular fear.

I’m arguing that it’s not a fear at all, but even if I wasn’t arguing that, then call it something else anyway. We already have good ideas for what you could say.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Why wouldn't I call it a phobia? It doesn't matter what kind of fear it is, it's still a fear, and therefore still a phobia.
1 up, 4y
It’s not a fear.

the problem with this is you’re assuming things about people who don’t like you.

Again. You have no basis. You haven’t given any reason for why I’m supposedly scared of homosexuals... because I’m.... not.
1 up, 4y,
2 replies
Also, this logic:

“They don’t like me? That means they’re afraid of me!”

That’s the logic of overly pretentious people.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Almost all hatred in the world is caused by three things: Envy, jealousy, or fear.
And you're not envious or jealous of homosexuals, so the only real option left is fear.
1 up, 4y
First off, envy and jealousy are the same thing.

And also uhhhhh, no.

I do not “hate” homosexuals. You’re using this vocabulary that is being thrown around so much that it means absolutely nothing now. It has the same punch as the word “racist” and the word “sexist”. It means nothing.

Again. The logic of overly pretentious people.
“They don’t like me? That means they’re jealous of me! They’re afraid of me! They want to be like me!”
That’s called cynicism.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Envy and jealousy are different. If you had a brain you would know that.

And calling people pretentious and cynical has just as little punch as calling someone a 'racist' or a 'sexist.'
1 up, 4y
Name calling doesn’t change the fact that you have no basis for any of the arguments you’ve presented.

It is cynical to say that it’s the other person’s fault every time when they don’t like you. It’s cynical to say that people who don’t like you are things you can shrug off. That’s a mistake I made in the past. But saying “you’re racist” or “you’re homophobic” because you “don’t like gay people” is not a backed up argument.

People used to hate me for calling out upvote beggars (technically they still do but not as much now). Not because they’re afraid of me or jealous of me. But because of what I do.

Also your circular reasoning:

“It’s homophobia because they’re afraid of gays”
There’s no basis. Let me say that again. There is NO basis.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
And I'm not saying fears are caused by fearing something because it's different.
I'm saying homophobia is a fear because homophobes ARE scared of homosexuals, even though they say they're not.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
What? Different kinds of people??

And what basis do you have that I am scared of homosexuals even though I claim not to be? I can already answer it: zero

“And I'm not saying fears are caused by fearing something because it's different.“
Ok, then why on earth would I be scared of gay people? You already told me that it’s NOT because they’re different. So what is it?
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
You're really dense, you know that?
1 up, 4y
So you... don’t have a basis?
You’re just telling me that I’m scared of something when I’m... not?
0 ups, 4y
No one is actually scared of them. They just don't like them. I know what "phobia" means, but you don't see a person normally insulting a gay person in private, they almost always insult them to their face. They're not scared of them at all, they just dislike them.
