Actually the material and shape of the holder for the soda affects the taste via the material rubbing off on the soda and preserving the flavor. The shape of the container is what decides how much carbon gets out of the drink so where a cup with no lid would become flat soon a glass bottle would have a smaller lid so less carbonation would get out. So in summary the shape and material of the container does affect the taste and longevity of it in the end.
