I appreciate the article links. I've read these and similar articles which don't exactly propose a possible theory other than by simple wearing a mask and quarantining has eradicated the flu, which has plagued the world for 1000s of years (which seems a little plausible), but many articles propose that people with "flu-like" symptoms didn't get tested, which is quite the opposite of the reaction especially in the U.S. this past year. So if the flu is gone forever, that's great.

Masks
Washing hands
Social distancing
Quarantines
Shutdowns
Work from home
Distance Learning
Less traveling by plane
Increased flu vaccines.. (possibly due to people thinking it would somehow help against covid)
...
All different factors in 2021 which most likely contributed to the decline in the flu. I would tend to agree with whichever article was emphasizing distance learning as being a big factor. Kids are little vectors for sickness as they tend to run around touching everything, maybe not washing their hands as thoroughly as an adult might, eating with their hands, etc..

Was your claim in one the articles I posted? I don't think I've heard that one. I would think people with flu symptoms would get their azz tested ASAP in context of covid!

I don't think the flu is going anywhere and maybe not covid either.... I mean we could totally kick ass here in America with vaccinations, etc totally eliminating both.... But unfortunately we are part of a global society. Some countries don't even have access to water to wash their hands, let alone flu & covid vaccines. And so the flu and covid can replicate and mutate in those countries meanwhile we open up 100% again and begin traveling around again.. it would seem only a matter of time before a mutated version resistant to flu or covid vaccines comes back right in the middle of our newly 100% open, maskless, non social distanced society.

I was making another meme not as a reply to your comment, but as a meme to other comments.

General quarantine would explain if the amount of flu cases were merely a decrease or decline, but the flu has virtually been non-existent. In 2020, only about 100 people died according to the CDC, when usually each year about 35,000 die from the flu. Also, currently according to the CDC, there's only 1500 cases nationwide, when there's usually millions of cases. For a disease that has been around for 1000s of years to all of a sudden vanish when all of the usual contributing factors have happened in the past, like we didn't used to travel on planes and people did use to work from home, when we everyone was farmers, etc. If the flu is truly gone, that's great, but I'm surprised that medical researchers are not talking about how big of a deal this is!

Because, like covid, you get sick for a little while and then you get better.
