She's holding that gun in a very odd way. Or is it just me? Been a while since I've gone shooting.

It does seem a bit high on the shoulder. She's probably just a model posing with an AR-15. I found the picture online and I thought she looked a lot better than the dudes holding an AR-15 that came up in my search.

Agreed. She does look pretty great with it. (Though I think her left hand is too close to the front.) ;P

You have one of the highest crime rates in the Western world.

Take Chicago, New York City and all other large cities with strict gun control laws (which makes it nearly impossible to buy a gun in those cities) out of the equation and we have one of the lowest gun violence rates in the Western world. It has to be a city with the strictest gun control laws because in cities with lax gun control laws, the crime rate is lower.

There is a reason why it is lower. Criminals don't like it when they get shot. Take the guns away and criminals are then given carte blanche to commit as much crime as they want.

In the United States a firearm is used *at least* 3.5 times more to stop a crime than to commit a crime. The reason why I say at least is because most of the time when the crime has been stopped it never gets reported. The vast majority of those averted crimes, not a single bullet was fired.

The facts are these, if you live in a place where guns are illegal to own you might as well paint a bullseye on your back. Criminals will always find a way to get a gun.

After your forced gun buy back, your gun laws relaxed. There are as many guns in the hands private citizens in Australia as there were before the buy back.

You also don't have the population of the United States. As of June 2020 Australia has a population of 25,687,041. In the same year Los Angeles, Ca metro has a population of 12,447,000 or a little less than half of the population of Australia. The United States in 2020 was 331,002,647.

If Australia had the same population of the US then you would an equivalent mass shooting and school shooting rate.

I'm not trying to disparage Australia in anyway. I've never been to Australia but from what I have seen I think I would love your country. I also have friends who live there. My only problem with Australia is that it seems like every animal, sea creature and insect in your country wants to kill you. Plus you have crocs as big as a 747 airliner. And just when you think your safe a kangaroo will come and kick your head off of your body. :)

I remember years ago, about the first time I had ever heard of Steve Irwin, watching a show on the deadliest snakes in the world. I think there were only about 2 or 3 that were not in Australia. The rest were. That freaked me out.

We generally don't encounter our wildlife in our day to day lives. So while we're proud to be full of deadly creatures (seriously, it's become a badge of honour), we're almost never in danger.

That is how it is here also. We don't have animals as deadly as Australia but we do have bears, cougars and rattle snakes. Moose and bison can get aggressive also and have been known to kill people. I've only seen 1 bear at Yellowstone National Park but it was a black bear which are smaller and less aggressive than all other bears, plus I was a safe distance from it and in my car. I've never seen a cougar. I've seen 2 rattle snakes. I saw a lot of bison at Yellowstone but I was in my car. I've only seen 2 moose and also I was in my car.

We have deer and elk who kill people by running out in the middle of the highway but from I have heard you have that same problem with kangaroos.

I did almost step on a snake on a sidewalk once, though.

I'm a gun user and I don't look like that. I don't have any sleeveless plaid shirts and I don't wear ball caps.

In fact I don't know anyone who dresses like that, gun user or not. Do you think that you bought into a stereotype of what gun owners look like? I certainly do. The truth is gun owners dress just like everyone else. Every once in a while you'll see a person at the shooting range wearing tactical shirts, pants and boots but that is about the only thing I have ever seen that was a specific type of dress.

We're not Larry the Cable guy.
