I think it provides a safer more humane alternative to abortion, or a child left in a dumpster out of desperation because the mother fears the stigma involved in having a baby she feels she can't care for. We need more of these.

Yeah, it's good that they're implementing this into the world so you don't have to live with the guilt of abortion and so the baby can have a chance at a good life

Upon dropping off your moody Teen they will be immediately in the care of someone who understands who will feed them pizza and leave them alone already.

Pizza? I was thinking buggy whips.

Definitely better than abortions, but I think the name and execution could be a little more refined...not sure the thought of dropping a baby off like a DVD from RedBox is quite genuine enough, but hey if people are using it then that's a win. Of course, my synopsis is quite boiled down into a blunt delivery but you get the point :)

Having adopted before, I can say it doesn't really matter how cliche it is...if lives are being saved then that's a win for life, and that's worth celebrating!

I think it is a much better thing than abortion or leaving it to someone who might abuse the child.

Too bad criminal minds is over because an episode about someone who takes babies and drops them in these boxes would be good. The problem with this being totally anonymous is there is no confirmation that it is the real mother. The system needs to be edited a little but I think it's a decent idea. However I don't think it could be a complete alternative for abortion. I think abortion needs to stay because a lot of women who abort aren't afraid of raising the child they are worried about birthing it.

I'd like to think there are a few precautions in place to prevent something like what you suggest could happen...there are a lot of sick people out there but more good than bad, or at least I'd like to think that. I know nothing about the program, but it would seem best if the drop off was at a police or fire station, or attached to a crisis center and have the area under surveillance to document any drop offs and discourage things like that from happening.

I agree with you on the abortion thing, but I also think that we as a society should take steps to actually curb abortion rates, such as giving teens comprehensive sex education and making contraceptives more available to everyone. Making abortion illegal and/or making people jump through a ton of expensive hoops for one doesn't really prevent it from happening at all, it just makes it more likely to occur in a sketchy place and performed by sketchy people rather than occurring in a safe hospital setting. This can be great alternative for women who can't keep their babies but still want to give birth to them, though.

Paint abortion into a corner. Agree completely.

How about if society changes it's attitude about babies, that they're not the worst thing to happen to a person, that they don't have to be a burden, that a woman can have a career and a family?

How about society changes it's attitude and stop meddling with parents who obviously don't want to be parents? Stop insisting that all parents are good parents? Stop subjecting unwanted children to torturous parents who will hurt than worse than aborting them?

exactly

I like it. It's better than just leaving the baby out at the mercy of the elements, much better than abortion, and you don't have to put it into a government system. I see this as a win all around.

this is a good idea, but rather than focus on abortion or the yummy baby soup they make, focus on other conditions affecting kids. https://informationisbeautiful.net/beautifulnews/595-childrens-lives-saved/

Thank you for sharing the link and positively contributing to this discussion. It's true many "solutions" still don't get to the root of the problem of unwanted pregnancies.

so true! unwanted is the key word. we have to paint abortion into a corner, not make it illegal or shame it. same with eating meat vs pure veganism.

I don't shame women who've had abortions some I dearly love have had abortions but they're not proud of it and it left them emotionally scarred for life. I'm saying society needs to make it so women never have to feel it's their only option when there are many resources and times have changed so a pregnancy doesn't have to be shameful, dangerous, or a burden.

Absolutely agree with sentence 2. However, abortion should remain legal.

To be honest I’d rather just have a McDonald’s burger vending machine. It seems more safe than just that.

I’m saying those safe havens look less safe than a vending machine that gives burgers (burgers that have probably been there for days)

How is it less safe? Did you read the description of how it works?

I did. And what do they do with those babies? Put them up for adoption?

Do the parents just give birth and then plop them in the box?

Is it also an alternative to daycare for kids? I have a lot of weird questions.
2 ups, 3y
Yes they're put up for adoption. It's mostly for newborns so yes, soon after giving birth. Daycare? Lol.. no not like you drop the baby off in the morning and pick it up later.

Abortion is way better than being abused by a parent who couldn't get an abortion :)

It's the experience of many kids. That's why abortion has it's place where these drop off kiosks are not an option or will not be considered for other reasons. Not all parents want to abandon or adopt. They would rather keep and control and punish their burden.

My parents were bad but not that bad. I am grateful to be alive. However I believe I am conscious now only because I reside in a human form.

Better than a grim alternative. Though even unhealthy babies might well benefit from this.

I think it's to prevent mothers who've abused or neglected their babies to drop them off and try to get off the hook.

Perhaps so. But I'd prefer seeing to the child's safety than pressing charges.

I agree, better that baby is safe rather than continuing to live in those conditions.
