Then you either didn't see her actual tweet, or you misread it. The point is actually about how the underlying hatred is a slow creep, rather than an obvious instantaneous one. That the first step is NOT government oppression, but getting that hatred to be socially acceptable. That that hatred can be directed in any direction, in this case towards conservatives.
For now, I think McCarthyism is a more apt analogy, but that could have progressed further and more violently if left unchecked. You litterally have politicians advocating harassing conservatives anywhere in public. It's a thin line between harassing and attacking.
