We can tolerate political disagreement on things like how to best tackle issues like the economy, taxes, the environment: the traditional things R's & D's used to argue about.

We can't tolerate rampant bigotry, a multipronged assault on reality, and literal attacks on democracy itself.

There's no reason to tolerate a GOP that is no longer founded on any concrete ideals or belief system than intolerance itself.

This is the paradox of tolerance. People think tolerance means letting someone say whatever the f**k they wanna say with no repercussions. Usually it's couched in "well, that's Free Speech!"

But that isn't true at all.

Saying whatever you want without any regard to anyone isn't Free Speech. What you are advocating for is Consequence-Free Speech.

Being tolerant doesn't mean letting someone spout off with whatever hateful/racists/misogynist/bigoted nonsense.

You don't get to treat or talk about people as less than human because of the way they look, how they dress, whom they love, or how they want to be identified. Everyone has the right to dignity and respect.

You don't get to take that away with actions, words, OR silence.

Because when you give Nazi's space to say Nazi shit, MORE Nazi's show up.

And if you're silent about their hatred, if you give them space under "free speech" you are complicit in that hatred.

To be Tolerant is to make sure that people are treated with dignity and respect, and you don't let hatred have any space.

And the US Supreme Court agrees. Hate speech is not protected.
