Truth and Reconciliation Commissions have been successfully used by post-conflict societies around the world. They are concerned with healing, speaking and seeking the truth, not handing out punishment. Attorney Al Watkins said it best: His client was just following orders. Under such circumstances, where malfeasance started at the head of the government, heavy punishment of the foot-soldiers is not necessarily the best path forward. Republicans who are serious about supporting "healing" and "unity" should support something like this.
