They let BLM burn down the police precinct and take over Seattle. No one was shot or arrested day one of the George Floyd protests and the capitol incident only happened for one day not months on end. The weed thing is ridiculous and a sign of an America we are getting away from. When the riots happened during the BLM movement they were called mostly peaceful but the incident on the capitol is covered as insurrection and white supremacy. Want me too keep going about what bs this two Americas is?

More than 300 non-violent protesters were arrested to make space for tRump's photo op on June 1st. They weren't beating cops to death or threatening to hang Senators.

That has more to do with Trumps ego then it does two Americas. I'm sure the race of the protesters wasn't taken to account negating your argument for the question at hand.

Then compare "Elizabeth from Knoxville"'s genuine surprise that the police would do anything at all to her in response to her participation in an armed attack on the seat of US power.

What a crock. Blacks are disproportionately imprisoned because blacks disproportionately commit crimes shocker. There was no facts about them being unfairly sentenced only something about them more likely to be arrested for marijuana. Maybe you have not been around a diverse crowd but black people are more likely to smell to high heaven of weed. That is just a fact sorry.

And the situation at hand there have been 70 arrests and there are 170 people of interest for the FBI and they are going to get the book thrown at them so there is no playing nice with these idiots that stormed the capitol. I work in Minneapolis. It's not a stereotype, it's a lived observation. I'm all for ending the war on drugs. Self harm is legal for everything else.

Well, Minneapolis isn't as white as it used to be. That means you have a lot of chances to get out and meet your Black neighbors, rather than just being annoyed at those 5 teens smoking on the corner.

Yes, they hang out in my neighborhood too, but that doesn't keep me from seeing the guy who's a decorated army veteran, the inspiring school principal, the grandfather who comes home from the job he's held for 30 years to host his 4 granddaughters for play all weekend, the owners of small businesses, the smart mom who's done all the school research to make sure her children get the best education -- my Black neighbors.

I am a pessimist so I admittedly see the bad before the good. I also would rather help a black person than an old white woman any day so I do indeed stereotype people :/

I love my coworkers and most of my customers. I don't hold anything against people for smoking weed either. I was just pointing out that you are more likely to get in trouble if you act conspicuously. Laws make criminals so we should change the laws if we want less criminals. Drug possession law is as lame as mandating seat belts as far as I'm concerned. The law is there to protect you from others not yourself.

Try reading the sentencing project piece, and imagining what growing up on the other side of that divide would mean for you, your self-image, and your expectations of society.

If you mean free speech, that means the ability to speak out is USUALLY protected. Speech that is not protected: speech meant to cause damage or incite harm; also liable is not protected speech.
