Right? I've traced my family tree back a long ways. A large majority of my ancestors came to the U.S. AFTER the civil war. All of the others lived in the north, so they weren't slaves or slave owners, but just did stupid shit like die fighting for the Union army in the civil war. You'd think that would be enough of a sacrifice, but apparently not.
