What gives users the right to insist platforms sponsor their content? | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Twitter can’t be forced to platform someone else’s violent, Neo-Nazi, or seditious propaganda, or really anything it doesn’t want to that it deems a Terms of Service violation. To say that it should be would be to trample over Twitter’s own free speech rights.

By all accounts, Twitter has permitted far more crap from our President than it had to.

Kick him off, make him move to Gab or whatever other shithole site he’ll be welcome.

Nothing will stop Trump from getting his word out if he wants to, even if it is him resorting to bankrolling his own media firm. Assuming he actually has the dough after paying off all his debtors and lawyers.

by definition, twitter is against free speech, but that could mean as little as deleting a comment saying they were going to murder someone. But I feel like the definition of freedom of speech should be changed; since so many people are now abusing it

I reject the new right-wing orthodox definition of “free speech” which is, essentially: say anything, anywhere, any time you like, as many times as you like, without incurring any consequences.

I think the definition of free speech needs to be refined to account for a little bit more of what Orwell described, which is the freedom to speak the truth specifically.

Add to that the obligation to not be flagrantly abusive of other human beings and their rights.

Add also the obligation to refrain from “spam” however that’s defined: I.e. overly repetitious, off-topic, irrelevant, money-making or self-promoting content.

These are the basic principles of online communication that it seems most social media companies have agreed upon. Whether they enforce those terms or enforce them well is a different story.

True, and when they say "this is becoming what the Nazis did", the topic just becomes irelivant. Look at places like Parlor, which have embraced free speech too literally and are now hellholes.

The topic of free speech occurs a lot on sites that are for memes and stuff, because one user's sense of humor could seem insanely offensive to another's. Add diverse political leanings, and you now have argument city.

so i can start saying that the nazis were right and that everyone around me is an inferior species and i can say that whites are better than blacks and all of that wouldn't matter? no. freedom of speech is the right to speack your opinion, not ramble like an idiot.

Historically, the judicial branch has always limited the First Amendment freedom of speech when it endangers people (and sometimes when it is seen as seditious). Speech that is "directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action" is NOT protected.

trumps posts can cause harm tho, because he encouraged protesters to storm the whitehouse, and he makes sexist and racist posts, plus posts that think of women as only objects. he really needed a break from posting. I honestly hope his account gets deleted.
