We can't control our corrupt politicians in Washington. That, along with death and taxes, are constants in our lives. I would be surprised if there wasn't massive pork and insane destinations for our hard earned tax dollars.
But, I get your point. It's not enough. People are suffering. Peoples' livelihoods are being denied to them by state and local govts. But is it that these folks are so insulted, so smacked in the face, that they don't want the $600?
From my point of view, the federal govt giving people money it doesn't have isn't necessarily the solution. Or at least it shouldn't have to be, even though it seems that it is. The unfortunate reality is that the state and local govts responsible for this mess are either incapable or unwilling to help.
Hindsight being what it is for most, not shutting down the economy would have been the right thing to do, while still issuing guidelines for mask wearing, social distancing, washing hands, not touching our faces, etc. The key would have been isolating those groups most at risk. Right gov. Cuomo???
Or, as we were lied to up front, shutting things down temporarily, in order to flatten the curve with an objective of giving our health care system a fighting chance at not being over-run, and once achieved, cancel the lockdowns. But you didn't have to be Nostradamus to predict that once you give these state and local govts emergency power, they are not going to be too quick to give it up. So now all this really is, is the federal govt attempting to help remediate the damage done to the economy by state and local govts.
Given the mess we're in, the longer term solution is govt getting the hell out of the way and letting the American people do what they do best, which is adapt and overcome, and do what's right for their health and safety because that's what's best for business. Only those who don't do that, for whatever reason, need fall under the jackboot of these state and local govts. But they wouldn't really need to, since people wouldn't do business with establishments who put them at risk... right?
And this isn't just me demonstrating hindsight, btw. I've been saying the same thing all along. Now our dilemma is that we have a federal govt piling new huge debt amounts on top of an already huge debt amount. Thankfully we had a strong economy going into this mess. But the time will come fairly soon when the economy won't be able to take it any longer.
