I actually figured that might be the case, but it can be hard to tell that stuff over the internet as that site has been taken seriously and fact checked before. See Poe's Law.

Indeed. I remember reading somewhere that 30% of our communication is the actual words. The rest is derived from facial expressions, tone of voice, body gestures, etc. Since commenting on the Internet takes away all of that context, Poe's Law can happen sometimes.
