I’m an advocate for disabling downvotes in the comments section of the main political stream. While imgflip does censor people who violate their terms and conditions, which is natural, their downvoting feature does censor people in a way or make difficult to follow the rare political debate that doesn’t break down into personal insults. The conservative crowd have mostly been reasonable in their downvotes to me with a few exceptions but there are certainly others who meet the community’s scrutiny.

I’ve also advocated against the need for PoliticsToo section so my observation is not only accurate but consistent as well.

I don’t blame the community for their bias but I do wonder if IMGFlip has the ability to suspend hiding downvotes comments for a political stream. And if they do, I absolutely hold them responsible.

Just as I would Facebook, Google, etc if their bias was obvious.

But there is no evident bias. Conservative comments are just as available to downvote.

As if to prove my point, I’ve been downvoted despite our rather civil conversation.

I didn't, and your comments still show up just fine

Oh, I'm not accusing you. A few hours later, the comment was ironically downvoted.

It is entirely possible people were testing to see if I was right that a relatively low count of downvotes can make it hide.

Not according to some fervent Trump Supporters on this site. There is an extreme bias according to these immature people, who may very well be children. And I have come to the same conclusion you have that there is no evident bias by the mods or devs as well.

However, it seems counterproductive to have an official stream devoted to politics and discussion when those discussions can be inconveniently hidden by just 3 or 5 downvotes.

Just because something is fair, doesn’t mean it isn’t exploitable.

Sometimes you actually make fairly reasonable arguments, but this is just dumb.

Well, I appreciate your opinion, but I think your criticism would be more effective if you elaborated. Perhaps you're incapable of doing so and if that is the case well, fair enough.

You want to disable downvotes. That is stupid.

Only in regards to comments. And only for the politics section. Downvotes tend to hide comments and makes those who might be having the rare civil debate quite difficult. Ideally, you should still be able to downvote comments but they’d no longer be able to be hidden. Or maybe even raise the hidden comment threshold from three-five to five-eight.

Perhaps you still disagree. Why do you think this wouldn’t be beneficial?

Removing the ability to downvote limits freedom of expression. That is one of problems I have with Saidit as well. It doesn't censor much content, but you can't downvote anything. You should be able to downvote content you don't like. Although I do agree imgflip hiding low-rated comments is dumb. But I don't think any comments should be marked as low-rated at all.

Hiding comments also limits freedom of expression. You may have said it before but not to me. I’m glad you’re at least with me on hiding low-rated comments.
1 up, 3y
Perhaps the downvotes should be counted separately as they are on Youtube. I don't agree with getting rid of downvotes but I do agree that hiding low rated comments is limiting freedom of expression.

Because several billion dollar corporations censoring you and abetting doxxing & threats of violence against you is exactly the same as ordinary people politically disagreeing with you.

You imbecile.

They have a right to censor you if you are violating their terms of agreement. Otherwise, if your harassment is legitimate, then you could continue the fight instead of giving up.

A) It’s fun watching leftists defending the “rights” of big multinational corporations to trample all over little people. It’s nice seeing your complete and total hypocrisy in claiming to be for the little guy exposed.

B) Even if it is their “right,” the disparity between the two situations is so vast that you’d have to be an imbecile (which you are) to compare them.

Just because you disagree with me, doesn't make me a leftist.

There is nothing hypocritical here.

If people are being censored on imgflip for breaking the terms, then I absolutely support their ability to censor. If people are being harrassed for their political beliefs, then they absolutely should fight back (by not giving up and going off to make their own platform or stream.)

Ah, yes, me vs. FaceBook and Mark Zuckerberg's billions of dollars. Excellent plan.

Again, if your harassment is legitimate, then you could continue the fight instead of giving up. Just one person against a billionaire, yes. That would be quite an uphill battle. But a few hundred, a thousand, a million? That number starts to make ripples.

It seems to me, the prime issue is the spread of misinformation. It is not Zuckerberg you have to contend with but rather the U.S. Government. Apparently, they gave Google and Facebook notice that they're unhappy with their spread of misinformation.

If your information is not factual, and can't be verified, then there is nothing nefarious going on here and you're simply a victim. Not a victim of billionaires but of propaganda.

"If your information is not factual, and can't be verified,"

Hey you dumb sack of shit, how about you "verify" that Trump called neo-Nazis fine people. (He didn't, you retard.) How about you verify that he only paid $750 in taxes a few years ago. (He didn't, you retard.)

But all this bullshit is allowed to flow freely because it's bullshit THEY LIKE. But, for instance, factually pointing out black people's propensity for violent crime? Oooh! They don't like that even though it's 100% true. You're liable to get banned.

F--k you.

So you're okay with the government deciding what is and is not true and what you are and are not allowed to say? That's fine by you?

What the f--k is wrong with you?

Seriously, if that's what you want, go move to North Korea. I don't know what you are, but you're not an American.

Temper temper.

And you wonder why you’re censored.

Care to try again or are you incapable of controlling yourself?

Some things are worth getting angry about. Your 1984 mind control agenda is one of them, you sicko. Move to North Korea. It’s where obedient slaves like you belong.

Anger is a sign of frustration. Frustration usually happens when you don't get something you want. I suppose the question is; what do you want? Censorship and stripping you of your First Amendment rights are not the same.

You're free to think what you like about me but if you want a world where people exchange ideas freely, I suggest you first stop treating those you disagree with as hostile. Otherwise, how are we suppose to exchange our differences of opinions?

I don't expect you to answer these questions, of course.

I expect you to continue to insult me and misrepresent my argument because deep down, the problem isn't censorship.

The problem is your lack of control. Not over the media or what other people think. But I suspect you have no control over yourself and so you continue to levy blame on others. It is not at all amusing and I do hope you consider to think about your next response very carefully. Not because your life depends on it but because they are very good questions, I think.

You may disagree, of course.

That may be your opinion.
