It sounds silly but it is a symptom of our flawed democracy.
Joe Biden won 10 million more votes than Barack Obama did in ‘08 and is currently leading Donald Trump in the national popular vote by 5.78 million votes, or about 4%. With 51% of the vote Joe Biden actually won a clear majority. This would be a crushing victory and a clear mandate under most democratic systems.

And yet, Biden’s margin of victory in the 5 states that put him over the top in the Electoral college is only about 200,000. And most of that comes from just two states: MI and PA. In GA, WI, and AZ the margin of Biden’s victory was only between 10,000 and 20,000.
In other words, the Electoral College wiped away about 5.5 million of Biden’s votes.
This may, and I hope it does, cause a certain number of liberals who live in solid blue states fo consider moving to a state where their vote for President and U.S. Senator actually matters.
Besides, GA is a nice place to live. As are these other states. The heartland’s great. Cost of living is cheap!
So if you don’t want Californians and New Yorkers showing up on your doorstep, then support reforming the Electoral College and the U.S. Senate to make each citizen’s vote count equally regardless of where they live.
This isn’t a suicide pill for the Republican Party, by the way, unless they’ve already given up on the idea that Republicans can ever win a majority of Americans and their only chance to cling to power is by exploiting systemic flaws that can allow for minority rule.
