Have you ever been to any Asian markets? I have. And just like puppy mills in the US for pet factories, in many Asian countries there are farms for dogs, cats, etc. just to sell for food. They don't have the personal wealth countries like the UK, the US and so on have. Sadly, overseas, owning one cow means wealthy. Owning one dog means the family might eat for a week.

Being vegetarian is fine.
Being vegan is unhealthy. You don't get enough iron and you can suffer from vitamin deficiency, which can result in irreversible neurological effects.

As for my disputing your comments, I've had dealings with pseudo-activists and my experiences with them automatically raise red flags for every and any comment. That bandwagon is overflowing with entirely too many armchair activists that only do their sermons from the comfort of their homes.

I am not an animal rights activist, yet nor am I ever condoning the willful harm of nature. I am not a vegetarian/vegan. I eat meat. I do expect the finished product to have been dispatched and processed in as humane as possible manner. I have worked in and with slaughterhouses/poultry processing/fish suppliers and I am very much aware there is a proper method and an inhumane process. In that environment, unfortunately, greed does rule.
As for your special affinity with the creatures on this planet, go for it! Do whatever good you are capable of within your scope and limitations. Dont let ignorant asses like myself deter you from your goals and mission. Perhaps the world needs more like you to achieve more and better.

When you declare your opinions publicly, you open yourself up for criticism. It's a fact of life. Respect animals if you so desire. Just don't expect everyone to share your beliefs. Everyone else is not you and you are not them. If you share your opinions, expect the ignorance. Embrace what you want. That is your prerogative. But your truth is not "their" truth. Just be prepared to find it is not accepted as a universal construct and it will be deconstructed by those with different values and truths.
