I have likened face mask mandates to seatbelt laws many times in my debates with conservatives

Still haven’t gotten any kind of good response to that simple argument

You just answered your own debate - one is a mandate delivered by dictator governors and mayors. The other is a law that went thru the proper channels, legislatures.
