Dead wrong, Pumpkin. Don't let yourself be brainwashed by the people who hate America and use many of points in the 1619 Project which have been proven to be false, to try and brainwash you as well.
Consider this; when we look back at the time around the 1770's it's nearly impossible to look at it through any lens other than that of our current time. So it's hard to put ourselves in their place and consider everything they had to consider. The fact is there were many, many people back then who were against slavery, and for equality. Slavery existed before the country was founded. To found the country, southern states were needed, so the founders just kicked the can down the road when it came to the issue of slavery, and 80+ years later it came to a head in the form of the civil war. But in 1776, to try and force southern states to give up slavery would have meant NO country.
So, the problem then was similar to what it is now in terms of nurturing change, particularly sweeping social and cultural changes. Take something that to many today seems like common sense; something like gay marriage. How long did it take, and how much effort did it take to get that legalized? But imagine 200 years from now, that the schools try to teach their children that everyone alive now was a homophobe and a hater. It's just not true.
And btw, you can bet I'm going to hear it from some of my fellow Trump supporters (and definitely conservatives, which I am not) about using gay marriage as an example, because there are plenty of people who feel it is wrong. Many of them feel that way due to their religious convictions, which I respect. However, we live in a secular society, so we can't let religion control our laws. For those with faith, religious beliefs and teachings can guide their personal beliefs and morals, but as a society, we can't impose those religious beliefs on all, when many do not share them.
