It's only for a few million lives.

Even the high estimates are for a few hundred thousand and don't take into account that many of those deaths have significant co-factors and that it is not reasonable to attribute them to Covid. Driving the entire economy to dust and staying locked down for YEARS is not a reasonable response. Are you seriously okay with it being on lockdown and having no life forever? Are you okay with all theme parks being driven out of business (at least in California)?

We'll get back to normal when a vaccine comes out. It will probably come out in early-mid 2021.

By then, several positions will have already been eliminated, leaving fewer jobs to go back to. Several jobs have already been eliminated through layoffs and more are coming.
There have already been reinfections and studies suggesting long term immunity is not achievable. If our body is not capable of the long term immune response to make a vaccine work, there can be no vaccine.
Covid is no more deadly than diseases, like chicken pox and measles, we used to accept as normal. They did not cause us to shut down our lives. Yes, if a vaccine is developed (and that's a pretty big IF) we should take it and the further reduced risk. But it does not justify shutting everything down in the meantime and causing irreparable financial damage to untold numbers.

So, these are the 2 ways for a pandemic to end
1: social ending
2: medical ending
A social ending is when we give up eradicating the disease and learn to live with it, but it has to be under control.
2: medical ending
A medical ending is almost impossible to achieve, but it was done with smallpox.
A medical ending is when the disease is 100% eradicated from earth.
Since covid can affect animals, we probably can't get a medical ending. We have to make a vaccine and learn to live with it, it is our best chance at beating covid.

It is gone. We could all get back to regular life and we'd be fine. It was never some world-ending catastrophe, although many governments' responses were catastrophic.

Exactly: 99.5% survival rate, none of the tests are accurate, 85% of people that got it wore masks all the time...etc...etc...
