Yes, I live in Aurora. I thought that we had turned a corner getting Mike Coffman as mayor but apparently not. Either that or, probably more likely, is that there's a huge liberal presence in the city council that he can't fight against.

Holy crap, your right in the middle of it! Yeah, the unfortunate truth is that the mayor has only so much power. The state Senate Bill 217 is outside of his control and I think that is largely to blame.

In all fairness, the bill sounds good on the outside with a call for more accountability, but the devil is in the details, right? What a shitty bill. I hope you all win back the senate because this was a complete disaster of a bill.

If you serve a "no knock" warrant on me you'll get shot. If you identify yourself as law enforcement and show me a judge signed warrant with affidavit that lists my name or the location you want to search and what you are searching for or that I've committed a crime, I'll go with you peacefully.

What a great example of your point. As for the rest of us that don't live in a make believe world were accidents don't happen. A poorly executed no-knock warrant out of thousands, does not take away the need for officers to have that tool in their toolbox. I mean for crying out loud, the officers even went to jail. Justice was served.

I mean, do your homework into why the crime is exploding in Aurora, CO. Cops are refusing to go into many situations because people have restricted their ability to actually do their job SAFELY. Hell, instead of putting yourself in the shoes of the hardened criminal being served the no-knock warrant, why not pretend for a moment to be the officer? You just put on your bullet proof vest to go to work, kiss your wife and kids goodbye, because you never know if it might be your last day. You then get told to execute a warrant on a criminal who has a history of violence and is armed. Your CO then tells you that unfortunately, you are going to have to knock and announce yourself because no-knock is illegal in your state now. You would do exactly what every officer across the country would do at that point. Because no one is going to walk into an armed situation where the odds of them getting shot at is super high.

If I were an officer I would refuse to serve no-knock warrants. Yes, you might get shot at and yes they might try to destroy evidence, but you are much safter.

How do you not see the oxymoron of this situation? How can you say "Yes, you might get shot" in the same sentence as "safer." Can you not see the lack of logic in your statement?

Again, Brianna Taylor is dead because her boyfriend had time to run to get his gun and start a firefight. And not only is she dead, but an officer was injured from the shots fired from Brianna's boyfriend. The fact is simple, a no-knock warrant may have actually saved Brianna's life.

So again, stop arguing for the protection of hardened criminals and stop pretending you want a safer place because you clearly don't. Your "way of doing things" is objectively more dangerous and allows criminals to get away with more crime.

Yes, they know they are going to get shot at when they sign up for the job. If you take everyone's guns away, what's to stop the government from forcing everyone to cut off their left arm? Nothing. It sounds absurd, but worse things have been done by governments that disarmed their populace. If you tell the police they can't shoot anyone you end up with the same result. Except the police get shot.
