Exactly. The common good is worthless. The highest good is the right of the individual.

While I don't entirely disagree, I don't think that I would put it like that. Some would want to take the country more in the direction of "common good" without recognizing that there is not that much left in common. We need more individualized solutions, not nationwide blanket programs that don't fit. Thanks for commenting.

As I told a friend recently, libertarians has a rep of being weed-smoking gun-nuts. But with weed being legalized all over the place, libertarianism seems to embrace more of what the mainstream say they want than the major parties. But don't take my word for it. Read her position on issues. Thanks for commenting.

Anarchy is the name of their purist game. No negotiations or compromise, so their legislators are politically sterile. No organized party because that is an afront to individualism, so they try to take over the Republican Party. Gold Standard supporters in an age when gold is $1200 an oz.

I have always been suspicious of them. However, my trust and confidence in the major parties has diminished significantly, to the point where I could willing to consider voting third party if they were more viable. Reportedly, her website received so many hits after the debacle -- I mean, "debate," that it crashed the site, so perhaps I'm not alone in this. A libertarian president would still have to work with Congress, which is full of major party folks, so I have no fear of the country becoming full on libertarian. There might some innovations, but I don't think much would change. It might send a message to the major parties though, and that could be useful. I think it's too late for this election.

So Libertarianism is actually "Do what you want as long as you don't interfere with others ability to do the same. Enforced by a limited minimal government."

To the degree that it can be described in two sentences, perhaps. I think that is more an ideal than policy. Jorgensen's site has some ideas under the issues tab that seemed more structured and thought out than "screw it, do what you want." And as I replied to DrSarcasm, a libertarian president is not a libertarian government.

Yes, but essentially that's what libertarian means. I'm not talking the modern libertarian party which is co-opted and corrupt. I'm talking original libertarianism.
A libertarian president can lead to a more libertarian government or at least keep the government from getting less libertarian.

Fair enough, though "co-opted and corrupt" might describe every political party today!
