If wearing a face mask symbolizes the end of free speech, what does wearing a ventilator in an ICU symbolize, the end of your life?

Well since if you put a covid patient on a ventilator they die, yes.
See covid makes tiny lesions inside your lungs and your lungs fill up with blood, when you put air pressure in the lungs via a ventilator, it makes the lesions worse which kills you faster.
If you instead give them inhaled anti-inflammatory steroids, they get better.

Wow, so all these ICUs that claimed they didn’t have enough ventilators for COVID patients were better off without them.

Yep, ventilators are for pneumonia which is fluid in the lungs, it forces more oxygen into the parts of the lungs that aren't covered in fluid.
