Terrible idea.

A user having more points than another doesn't mean they are better than another. It can actually happen quite often that "high ranked" users are actually trolls who always manage to be just inside the borderline so moderator's may not ban. Do you want to make them more important?

All this will lead to is high ranked users being spammed by upvote beggars trying to score big in a short time, and those users may only eventually leave. As high ranked users can aside from the most terrible users sometimes also indeed be the best users, you don't want to lose them to something as trivial as that.

So in the end, this idea is worthless, will only destroy things, and it should be considered a criminal offense to even propose it.

yeah but what is the minimum threshold before your own upvote starts counting as more than one, or is it determined by your leaderboard placement?
0 ups, 4y
It's determined by your points, your gifted points by upvotes are a percentage of your own points. This would promote more sensible content, cuz we can trust users like AndrewFinlayson (who doesn't agree with the idea) to upvote the good stuff.

I presume so, yes.

Totally disagree. After time this will result in super users that nobody else will come close to or ever have a chance of becoming. Like the economic system with a few filthy rich folk and the rest.

I do not believe that is a good idea

I came up with opposite solution. There's no need to fan the popularity contest.

Let's put users in the 'penalty box' for poor behaviour. Maybe your quality control could work that way.

High points users are required to make a certain number review processes for users in penalty area. (I made a template for review but clearly imgFlip designers could make such a template.)

If they fail to do their community service they would LOOSE points. That's called giving back!

Could do both. Extra points voting could relate to proactiveness. Say a high roller in the top 1000 also has low rates of disbarment in followers. It's not counterproductive cause if they never follow they would be more likely to incur a low rate via followers. So nothing like that.

True if they have that many points their service is probably impeccable. But by that logic why reward their "goodness" more. All your system does is create emulation and vanity. User will try to create menesvthat get attention of high rollers. This kind of flattery might conceivably go to their heads. Nice try though.

It's just another 3:00 AM idea from yesterday.
