Separate the generals from the military. They are just politicians in uniform.

The question for you guys is do the troops love their generals to the point of committing treason. Or do they love their generals at all?

Being a leader is not popularity contest like Trump believes. It's a matter of earning and keeping respect and loyalty. Both of those are two-way streets. This is why General Mattis is so highly respected. Trump's favorability among Marines rose when he brought Mattis aboard and that favorability dropped when Trump fired him and trashed him as "overrated".

Anyone who ever served knows the generals are always considering the politics. Anything colonel or above is suspect until they have proven they put their mens lives before bullshit politics.
