He was carrying an assault rifle because the crowds of rioters are violent as has been displayed on national tv repeatedly. The local
Militia decided to defend their town from destruction. No one has to let people come and destroy their city and anyone who wants to come and assist them is welcome. You are absurd to think violent mobs should be allowed free reign and no one should oppose them.
