I’m a new Mod here & relatively new to ImgFlip in general. What’s the story behind one of ImgFlip’s biggest streams?

Basically I got sick of how Politics was turning into a right wing echo chamber. So to balance it out I wanted to have an intentionally left wing echo chamber and I started this stream. “Politics2” was taken as I recall so “too” made sense as well.

Were you around when streams got subdivided, or did that predate you?

I keep hearing about a primordial time on ImgFlip when there was only one stream. Some memers are nostalgic for those days, but personally I couldn’t stomach it.

I’ve dabbled on some meme creation sites that basically work like that (no streams), and they didn’t jibe with me at all. There’s just no sense of community on those sites and it’s all so disorienting.

Apparently there were also only 3 submits a day which some say promoted “quality,” but to me that would just be incredibly throttling to my creative output. I usually post at least 10 memes a day... sometimes many more.

Yeah I’ve been on here since 2015 or 2016 under various names. This one seems like a keeper. Lol. And yeah there was one stream when I started. AND up and down vote counters were on the memes. I liked that. Also there were only a handful of templates. The classics as it were. The way back machine on archive.org is a great glimpse of the days then. The points on the leader board are funny given today’s numbers. I think they split off at first to fun, cats, and politics as official streams from the true powers that be here. Once Trump was voted in the dregs really came out and flooded the politics stream. Since then it’s been a complete shitshow. Glad this stream has been picking up steam and I have no problem deleting stuff from asshole rightists. So keep on flagging.

Yeah, my favorite thing to type in the reject box is "Sad! Low Energy!"

Oh I was also wondering what you think about increasing daily submits to 4 or 5 since we’re coming up on the election

Right lol. I think going to unlimited submits for example would be a mistake, possibly.

Depending how the approval queue looks, you might also wanna consider binging yet another Mod on board.

A couple recommendations:

imgflip.com/user/Ship-Shap can be a bit hotheaded and he has a controversial reputation (as do I), but he’s solid blue and definitely not afraid to use that delete button (he got kicked out of Everyones_A_Mod for standing up to harassment of me occurring on that stream).

imgflip.com/user/The_Cursed_Trainwatcher is another really good guy, 100% positivity all the time and starting to catch flak from certain segments of ImgFlip for standing up to right-wing/adult nonsense too. Solid blue too.

Always good to see a couple young up-and-coming memers with their heads screwed on straight.

yeah, back when I started there was just "fun" and maybe one or two others. Then Politics showed up because everyone was sick of the pro-trump crap.

Yeah, politics was cult-landia back then. It's just more refined now. Well, refined as in made more rather than fancy.

Then one day Anonymous asked in one of my unnoticed memes if I wanted to help Moderate this stream. I thought about it for a day then said "f**k yeah, let's do this." There were like maybe 12 followers when it got started too.

I think when I showed up about Nov. 2019, the stream had 100 followers or a little north of that

My how we have grown! Impeachment, Covid, the upcoming election: I’m sure it’s all played a part.

We’re a healthy fraction of the size of “politics” now.
