You do realize, of course (self-realize?) that while the US has mostly (and perhaps temporarily) given up on the notion that hydroxychloroquine is effective in treating covid-19 symptoms, that the rest of the world has not, and there are ongoing studies here in the US, right? Keep your eyes open in the near future for results being published from new studies on this subject. Trump certainly may not be entirely right, but he's also likely not entirely wrong, either.
The drug has been taken over one billion times, and is considered safe. Like any drug, it may not be safe when the patient has other health issues, such as cardiac issues. The study I reference below, has several key differences from other studies that have shown hydroxychloroquine to be ineffective or dangerous. Dosages make a difference, at what stage the medication is administered matters, patient populations matter, etc.
Like many complex issues, there is nuance associated with this issue, which the media is simply unable / unwilling to understand. Even if they somehow could, once they get a whiff of Trump being in favor of something, they simply won't report anything positive about it.
You're certainly not likely to see anything about a study like this in the mainstream media: https://www.henryford.com/news/2020/07/hydro-treatment-study
No matter what anyone else believes, here in America, whether you take it or not is between you and your doctor.
