Trump runs the most hive-mind like Administration of any in modern history. Advisors have to spend at least as much time sucking up to him as actually doing their jobs.
Those who don't toe the party line are sidelined and eventually dismissed or "resigned." The turnover has been crazy, and the things ex-staffers have said are not nice. Some of that is inherent to any administration. But with Trump we've seen it time and time again, and the commentary of the ex-staffers has been negative to an unprecedented degree. Bridges burned right and left. Every week brings some new drama.
There's a whole list now: Bolton, Mattis, Kelly, Tillerson, Sessions, Bannon, just a few of the highlights.

Many other talented Republicans have never entered the Trump Administration to begin with owing to his by-now obvious pattern of taking credit for any accomplishment and then scapegoating any problem to disfavored advisors that he then demonizes and discards like a used-up husk.
Dr. Fauci is in an interesting position in that he stands his ground and now actually has an independent base of support across America to the point that Trump's usual tricks aren't working on him.
But overall, it really is "the Trump show," as you might expect from a guy whose career background includes being the president of his own company and indeed actually starring in his own reality TV show, and having no prior experience in government.
