Eyyy I hoped you’d show up

Here are some concrete examples of discourse that might justifiably be considered hate speech and censored by social media platforms (bottom panel), vs. reality-based counterpart speech that deserves protection even if I may disagree with it (top panel)

Raising awareness of hate speech isn’t about censoring conservative ideas. Leftists can be hateful too in similar ways and should be called out as well.

See: imgflip.com/m/Cringe_Left

Countering hate speech is primarily about getting back to a political culture where both sides don’t demonize each other to the point nothing gets done and Americans begin to semi-seriously speak of civil war. And some are actually prepping for it (see: Boogaloo boys)

Tl;dr — Words matter.

Anywho, I just saw you also posted about hate speech again today (one of your favorite topics!) so I’ll go dunk on your meme too

Sound good?

Social media is pretty much ground-zero for free speech debates these days lol. Everyone is talking about it | “NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS,” HE SAYS USING A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM | image tagged in this is beyond science, social media, politics lol, cringe, conservative logic, free speech | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
In fact lots of people these days are talking about social media platforms — and what obligations (if any) they bear to counteract baseless rumors, foreign propaganda, Covid denialism, hate speech, and the like.

Did you miss all these stories? Here’s one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/johnkoetsier/2020/03/17/facebook-deleting-coronavirus-posts-leading-to-charges-of-censorship/amp/

After all, private platforms have free speech rights of their own and have no obligation to give a voice to anyone else that they don’t want to. That includes published authors and amateur commenters.

It’s why Breitbart doesn’t publish Paul Krugman and the New York Times doesn’t publish Milo Yiannopoulos (although the NYT does publish Ross Douthat, one of the sharpest conservative authors these days)

But because we have both a Breitbart and a New York Times, the public gets to hear both viewpoints.

“Facts to others”

For someone so strident about certain things, you’re awfully soft and relativistic on the nature of reality

Oh okay, now that you’ve repeated it for the second time it seems your use of the n-word above wasn’t sarcastic in the slightest

Really? Is it only the imagined threat of violence against you that keeps you from calling Obama the most hateful word ever for blacks (when used by whites)? This is an online forum you know. You can go to town: save for ImgFlip’s auto-redaction. But you could get around it with things like spacing I think.

No, I wouldn’t melt down. I’d just call it out, and call you a racist for doing that.

That said: you are still not actually calling anyone an N-word exactly, but only referring to it in quotation marks in an abstract way for purposes of discussion

So I still can’t tell whether you win/lose the N-word challenge today

Having seen the content of your memes over a period of months, and mindful of one of our earliest exchanges where you denied that birtherism against Obama was racist, I have formed the impression that you’re a white conservative naive about race issues.

You’re in good company here on ImgFlip!

However, there are black conservatives just as wrongheaded. See: Candace Owens, Clarence Thomas. But statistically speaking they’re rare.

If you want to state your race for the record, go ahead, but I don’t expect you will. So as usual when talking with you I resort to logic and experience to fill in the cracks.

Wrongheaded because why?

Finally a good question in this discussion!

Candace Owens has no problem tossing around the word “plantation” when discussing the mindset of blacks who disagree with her politically — and she therefore implicitly gives license to whites to use that same “Democrat plantation” smear against blacks which is infantilizing in the extreme. Just one example from her cringe files.

Clarence Thomas seems to think abortion rights either are or may one day amount to anti-black eugenics. He has little to say about white abortions though. And neither do a lot of conservatives. Putting black women on blast for exercising a constitutional right that all women in this country have is racist.

Oh: Non-whites are capable of “thinking like whites,” and vice-versa.

A better way of phrasing that, perhaps, is adopting the ideology of the socially dominant group. In China for example it wouldn’t be white: It would be Han Chinese. And it would be the kind of thinking that says Chinese rule over Tibet and Xinjiang is an unqualified good and locals with incorrect attitudes must be reformed even to the point of concentration camps.

Oh, China is very racist and nationalist and authoritarian and all that. And it’s to other minorities’ benefit to think and act Han Chinese as well, so that they aren’t socially ostracized.

Thankfully we are not that bad here in the U.S. and most white Americans have left a lot, though not all, of our racism in the past. We still have a social caste system but it’s not quite as determinative.

Tl;dr — You generally pick up your mental habits from the social company you keep.

Humans are social creatures.

A conversation about racism that doesn’t recognize the actual realities of race & nationality today — in America, in China as I discussed above, or anywhere else — is a useless philosophical abstraction.

As far as being a destructionist: well, I guess certain things should be destroyed in order to be rebuilt.

This is the most deconstructionist stream I’ve ever taken part in. It was actually synthetic-Mantis’s idea but I kind of took it and ran with it. It’s fun. imgflip.com/m/politics3

My OP meme above is in that politics3 wheelhouse as well and I may repost to that stream

However, many more of my streams have been generally constructive and with a positive outlook.

I imagine their participants think they do that, but they only succeed in making them look like hateful Trumpanzees.

Even_Cringier tho... that one’s just funny.

He is possessed by a demon doing the bidding of Satan, the Prince of Lies.
Perhaps more than one demon.
And once you boil it all down for him or the other complete idiots on this site, it comes down to this.
His mission is to deceive and deception comes in all kinds of shapes, sizes and flavors.
You will only get enough truth to make the lie viable.

And most importantly of all, you have to remember he doesn't have to make sense, he just has to make you mad, confused, irritated, annoyed or otherwise sow discord. Chaos comes from Satan.
At no time does he or the other Imgflip TDS spastics burden themselves with actually having to make sense.
Making sense is creating order. Chaos is what you see here and on the streets of cities burning.
That's the bottom line.

Nope it don’t exist. There is hateful speech that I’m sure you use and direct at those who disagree with you

If hate speech doesn’t exist, then what do you call the N-word?

Just another word or something else?
0 ups, 4y
I call it an offensive word, it doesn’t necessarily only mean hate. Some people use it like calling each other dude. Content and context make it offensive or not. Labeling words and phrases hate speech are just liberal dog whistles and censorship of thought and discourse.
