They say that once you've set you first tattoo, you easily want more, and more and more and eventually... well ...

Here is my own personal assessment. I honestly believe that there is something in the tattoo liquid itself that --once enough of it mixes in the blood of a human-- it causes said human to literally become addicted to it. Kind of like how we become addicted to nicotine, alcohol, fatty foods and recreational drugs.

Possible... Is there scientific proof for that? Or just a speculation?
It is possible though... I won't rule it out, I'm just wondering.

I don't recall ever reading or hearing about any scientific proof. What's actually funny is that I was hoping someone in here would present some when I first started reading the replies. LOL

Yeah, I was hoping that too ;)

Yes I've heard people say this is true for them. After seeing mine someone asked me what I was getting next, they assumed people pick it up like a hobby and just keep getting them. Others like myself only have a few and sometimes it can be a distraction when going swimming if they are not used to it can seem threatening. I never expected to or planned on it, just happened and now a reminder.

Yeah, I've heard that question a lot too when people set their first tattoo.

Of course, some people have a tattoo for very personal reasons. I've once seen a show where a father of a dying 3-years old girl requested her picture to be tattooed on his back, so she would live on with him after death would eventually have taken her. You can tell that was a very emotional show and the woman setting the tattoo was very nervous as she really wanted to do the little girl justice. I cannot imagine this man setting much more tattoos though, given the reason of his first.

But some people can take it really far, and place one more and more until you can wonder about the places left.

Of course never judge too soon. The guy on the picture is the Dutch tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher. He is considered an expert on this field. He traveled the world to find out all about tattoos, as in many cultures they have a ritual meaning. A lot of his tattoos can therefore be considered as a part of a collection of local traditional tattoos... Some people collect stamps from all over the world. He collects tattoos. He did make a few TV shows about them for the Dutch TV and some were very enlightening on this field.

I can confirm this via a friend of mine.

The fact that she's still smiling after getting all those needles scares me.

More than a couple is just dumb. Like wearing the same shirt for the rest of your life. At some point don't they want to wash them off?

I find it distracting, like being harassed by a bug when you're trying to eat, or people talking to you when you're trying to watch the game.

I hate needles. So that's that.

Some people do things like getting their kids names. That's great, until you put on some weight and your kids disappear into your fat rolls.

I agree with deadbox and others though that for some it seems an addiction. "Comic book" that's funny, deadbox!
