I think conservatives will consider "Marriage equality" a problem the progressives (that's something different from liberals, as liberals can still be conservative and vice versa) caused in stead of solved, so some things are a bit based on where you stand.
Of course the Republicans claim a bit of the credit now for the Bin Laden kill, because (according to them) Obama merely finished what Bush started. Of course, what I still laughed hard about was that Obama was continiously attacked for not hunting Bin Laden, and that the Republicans deemed it proof that Obama didn't respond to those attacks (doing so would endanger the ongoing operation) as proof he was lazy there, and then suddenly the news came out that Bin Laden was killed, and in the process also revealing Obama merely didn't defend himself as he would be forced to endanger the operation that way.
Of course progressive thinking is thinking ahead, not being focused on the successes of the past (which is a bit of what conservatism is based upon), and welcoming change. It only sounds logical you'll accomplish more with that, then by sticking with what we know from the past. But on the other hand, some political parties in the world, take progression as a goal by itself and then it can be dangerous. So in the end progressive politics and conservative politics need each other. Going too far in conservatism can also be a kind of neglecting the world around does still change, and that you cannot stop that, and that you therefore gotta adapt.
Of course if I got to name a success for the Republican party, it might be to get to an agreement with the Soviet Union starting the events that led to the downfall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. I gotta give 'em that.
