I don't care if the president chooses to wear a mask, except for the fact that it appears
he's caving to the outrage mob. I don't care if anyone wears a mask, just don't try
to force it on me or shame me for not doing it.

Just curious.. do you believe Coronavirus is worse, virtually the same, or not as bad as the flu?
1 up, 4y
From what I've seen, it appears to be the same, maybe slightly worse.
The problem is there is so much conflicting information, and the integrity of the media
& government institutions compromised to such a degree that a person doesn't know
what to believe, even when it's coming straight from the mouth of the perceived
"authorities".
Even if the virus is much worse than the flu, I am against enforcing restrictions on the
unaffected population at large. If I thought the virus was as deadly as some say, I would
take precautions, considering those who are more vulnerable, but I should not be
forced to do so in any case.
I still don't know anyone who has caught the virus, and only about half the people I see
in the stores where I'm from are wearing masks, maybe less than half.
If I see someone wearing a mask, especially if they are elderly,
I make an effort to stay away from them. I'm not trying to be difficult or vindictive, I
just believe that we are giving away our rights at an alarming rate because there is this
idea growing that letting the government control certain aspects of our lives for the
sake of "safety" is more important than freedom. I strongly disagree.

Sums it up pretty much.
2 ups, 4y
The only reason the President didn't wear a mask is because he was regularly tested and anyone he came in contact with was tested. So there wasn't a need to wear it. He wore a mask because he went to a hospital.
2 ups, 4y,

Most people don't wear masks because they're caving, its so they can slow the spread.
1 up, 4y,

I understand. It just appeared that he was reversing his position on the matter.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Reversing? He was never anti-mask. He usually doesn't wear one because he gets testing, but he wore one at the hospital so he wouldn't get it.

You are obviously a Karen who hates old people and newborn puppies and science! And don't go pointing to articles and data by experts that support your beliefs--those are obviously biased -- look only at articles that support the hysteria--those are obviously legit. And just because there is evidence coming out all the time that the numbers are inflated that is no reason to question the numbers you grandma hater!

For the record, this was sarcasm...I know it's hard to tell because many of the mask-mandate supporters actually sound like this.

For a very healthy person under 30, the survival rate is possibly better than 99.9%
8 ups, 4y
Now who can argue with that? It is all true too.

102%?
2 ups, 4y,

Well, if you consider the propaganda tripe, I suppose it's possible that they've 'killed' people (on paper) who aren't actually dead.... In which case, I wouldn't doubt a 'reading' of 102% is possible.

When you get triggered by a meme but struggle to criticise it so you claim that a statistic is off by a few digits.

Also, I see nothing wrong with upvoting a meme I found funny and relevant. Even if OP is a conspiracy theorist, I wouldn't care.

And at least I actually have some credibility, unlike you.

How quickly you forget how often we actually agree

That 95.8% survival rate wasn't off by a few digits but rather 453,510 dead people.

Secondly, I suppose I should add that you can still breath oxygen with a mask on, just ask the people who need respirators, like myself, who have to now wear them because people chose not to.

Lastly, conspiracy theorists are usually hilarious except when they're used to deny scientific data and downplay the deaths of thousands of people.

But I'm sure your shred of credibility isn't that important to you.

"How quickly you forget how often we actually agree"

I would say we disagree more than we agree.

"That 95.8% survival rate wasn't off by a few digits but rather 453,510 dead people."

Here's a scenario for ya:

Someone made a funny front-page meme that received hundreds of upvotes. However it stated that the earth's population is 7.7 billion, and not 7.8 billion. The OP and all his upvoters should be shamed, lose all their credibility, and be called conspiracy theorists. How dare he accidentally mistype a digit. That is completely identical to him wishing death upon 100 million people.

So quit being such a nitpicker.

"Secondly, I suppose I should add that you can still breath oxygen with a mask on, just ask the people who need respirators, like myself, who have to now wear them because people chose not to."

So everyone should be forced to wear masks? So much for individual liberties.

"Lastly, conspiracy theorists are usually hilarious except when they're used to deny scientific data and downplay the deaths of thousands of people."

I think you're over-exaggerating again.

"But I'm sure your shred of credibility isn't that important to you."

At least I actually have credibility, unlike you, Mr. Nitpicker.

I'm pretty sure those who are willfully ignorant are willfully ignorant. It was not a mistype. It was propaganda and worth pointing out. If you don't like being corrected by facts then maybe politics isn't the place for you.

Yes, people should wear masks when and where appropriate. If we were at war, and there was a significant shortage in military numbers; there would be a draft. And those the government deemed qualified to serve; would or risk going to jail. Not many people complained about liberties of the draft until we were doing wars back to back in the mid-20th century. Which, naturally, ended around the same time but only until it was necessary. Masks are necessary.

I don't think I'm exaggerating but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. How exactly am I over-exaggerating exactly?

To establish, or in this case, re-establish credibility, you do not start by name calling.

This is not war. This virus isn't even a real crisis. It's just some over-hyped flu.

"Masks are necessary."

Not really. They barely even do anything worthwhile.

"I don't think I'm exaggerating but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. How exactly am I over-exaggerating exactly?"

You repeated the word "exactly", therefore your point is invalid. (do you get how annoying nitpicking over minor details is now?)

"To establish, or in this case, re-establish credibility, you do not start by name calling."

Hi, I don't want to start anything, but there is an about 95-98% chance of dying with Coronavirus, a comparison for this is if I gave you 100 skittles and told you that 5 of them will kill you, I'm pretty sure you will avoid the skittles. As for having trouble breathing, my mother has to wear a mask 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, so I don't know what you're bitching about, and, honestly, the CDC and WHO, while questionable at times, overall are reliable.
8 ups, 4y
Have you seen the numbers? The number of people who had it skyrocketed but the deaths continue to decline. If you are in a high risk category take precautions like I did when it first started. I seen the rates decline so I no longer wear a mask. I seen videos of the oxygen levels with the mask on and you breathe in much more CO2 than normal. Will that cause problems? My wife is mandated to wear a mask at work and her migraines have gotten so much worse and she is more tired than normal. So from what I see it causes more problems to me. If you want to wear one, feel free to. I am not trying to stop you.
