I saw something on The Hill about how WH insiders are claiming that he is talking about dropping out if his poll numbers don't go up.

Which I think is BS. There's no way his ego lets him walk away.

The one thing that could get Trump to resign is the prospect of a landslide defeat.

That would allow him to maintain control of his narrative, continue to blame anyone and everyone but himself without facing the accountability of the voters and is also a way of saving his ego.

I would still bet against it, but if he does, this would be why.

Pardon for what?

The short answer is: We don't really know yet.

This is the most opaque White House in modern history, thanks to Trump's habit of staffing family members and compliant loyalists in his inner circle, and especially after the failed impeachment and the blatant whistleblower retaliation that took place afterward, that demonstrated speaking up does nothing but tank your own career.

At this point, we the public are lucky to get every little bread crumb that leaks out.

But, long story short: It would be a general pardon for any and everything, known and unknown.

Unless he still thinks he can get away with pardoning himself. But resigning and having Pence do it for him would be more obviously constitutional.

Assuming Democrats waited 3.5 years until after he left office and .5 years before the 2024 election to investigate anything about him: Yes.

If you consider (and I encourage you to actually read) all of the above, and you *still* think everything that's been said about the Trump Administration's malfeasance is a tinfoil-hat conspiracy: okay then.

But what you can't do is walk away from all the above and the hard work it represents by Trump critics on both sides of the aisle and equate it to the nothingburger 11th-hour electioneering wag-the-dog mission and exercise in damage control that is "Obamagate."

And if you're not going to read the 1000+ pages I've given you, then just read Mitt Romney's Senate floor speech announcing his decision to vote to convict Trump in impeachment. It's one of the most concise indictments of Trump I've read from anyone of either party.

I myself haven't read the entire Mueller report, or the entire House Impeachment Report, or Bolton's new book. However, I've read snippets and there are other summaries available of these documents.

What you *won't* find is a summary of "Obamagate," because it is not an actual document of formal findings. Just a shifting morass of theories that is in flux and can't possibly be settled by the time of the November 2020 elections at this rate.

Totally unjustifiable, because again, it's been close to 4 years. All the other stuff above has taken place since that time, or in the case of Mueller, was wrapped up long ago.

And -- Obama and the other targets of that conspiracy aren't protected by Executive Privilege. Trump and his cronies are, by virtue of him currently being President, and have relied on it to the maximum extent they can to thwart all oversight efforts.

Despite the obstacles, the investigations proceeded and found plenty of evidence of malfeasance.
