If you could only pick 5 classic rock/metal bands... | image tagged in red hot chili peppers logo, classic rock, first world metal problems, metal, red hot chili peppers, rock and roll | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers -- One of the first bands I ever got into way back in 7th grade. Fantastic songwriting and just a solid band that works so well together. I've seen them live 3 times with my best friend from middle school. Just a little bit on the cheesy side sometimes, but I can't imagine life without these jams.

2. The Beatles -- I don't listen to them much anymore honestly, because I just wore out those records lol. But their influence on pop music is undeniable, their songwriting and craftsmanship impeccable, and again: worked so well together as a band. Broke up tragically too soon. Imagine how the world of music would have been had they stayed together longer. We got some good solo material from Lennon & Harrison thereafter, though Paul McCartney's material really took a nosedive with Wings IMO. Lol.

3. Linkin Park -- Guilty pleasure, but I'd be lying not to have them on this list. Another very early discovery of mine. Hybrid Theory & Meteora kept me alive during middle school. Chester's voice is legendary (R.I.P.). I consider this band to be the Bon Jovi of Nu-Metal due to their songwriting talents and longevity after the rest of the scene kind of died.

4. Pink Floyd -- Oh my goodness. Definitely wore out these records. This band really found that perfect blend between progressive rock and classic rock. Roger Waters was a big influence on me intellectually for his lyricism and political outspokenness. David Gilmour's guitar work is out of this world. Like the Beatles, I wish they could have stayed together longer. Some good solo material put out by them afterwards, but nothing like the quality of their classic period.

Oh my, already at 4. VERY TOUGH DECISION COMING UP...

5. Rush -- Damn. I guess it's gonna have to be Rush. Super intellectual and thought-provoking band. Incredible musicianship. I don't know how Geddy Lee does what he does on bass and still holds down the singing. Or how Neil Peart drums any of his parts for that matter. Utterly irreplaceable and unique band. Good on them for staying together so long.

Honorable mentions: The Rolling Stones, System of a Down, Dream Theater, Tool, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Queen, Bon Jovi, Nightwish, many others.

Ok, the top is pretty easy for me.

1: Definitely Linkin Park! I wouldn't still be here without them and there isn't a moment when I would ever not be in the mood for them.

2: Again, pretty easy - Beatles! There's just so much to choose from and all of it is great. I wouldn't want to live without them.

Now it gets tricky. There are a lot of great bands in the picture but I guess...

3: Rammstein. I don't really listen to them regularly at all but I keep getting their songs stuck in my head randomly. It seems they just keep getting back to me and I guess it's mostly nostalgia because it was one of the first "heavy" bands I ever listened to when I started to wear black. We've all had that phase... And they're just so catchy.

4: Nightwish. Similarly nostalic for me and similarly stuck in my head from time to time. But to this day I basically only listen to the older stuff (because Tarja is just irreplaceable).

5: I kinda feel like I should say either Led Zeppelin (the first album I ever bought myself) or Nirvana (because apparently I have a thing for dead people) but there's also so many more on the list I wouldn't want to live without (Blink182, the Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Queen, Pink Floyd, the Doors, Aerosmith, the Who,...) that I'm just gonna pick someone who isn't on the list but very well should be: Alice Cooper.

And, of course, there are a lot more who should be on the list but aren't but to me Alice Cooper is the most important one of them - especially since Welcome to my Nightmare is the first record I ever bought.

Nice list. Wifey and I just rocked out to Nightwish yesterday. :) The band is super nostalgic for her -- a little less so for me but I still love them.

Speaking of wifey, I'm leaving ImgFlip now and I guess it's for good this time :( tl;dr, she locked me out of my account, lol. Just thought I'd say goodbye to you in person again.
