That's the point. Who gets to decide the meanings of symbols and terms? Seems pretty one sided.

I don't think they intend it that way. Yes, technically BLM does not include other races but I don't think they are interested in disadvantaging other races. They just want equal treatment.

I do get your point, though.

If BLM really did want equal treatment for everyone, they would be so racist towards white people.

But you get to determine what the confederate flag means to those who support it? It's not what it means to them?

I Personally have no Problem with the Battle Flag and I don't judge people for disliking it, The way I look at it if the American Flag can mean Something different than it did 200 years ago before the end of Slavery Then why not The Battle Flag.

The question is who gets to decide what symbols mean. The nazis weren't the originators of this symbol.

Symbols can mean different things to different people. Who gets to decide what the symbols mean? If a Christian commits a heinous act does that mean the at the cross is now a reviled symbol? Does the fact that swastikas symbolize nazis and memories of the holocaust for Jewish people mean that Hindus and Buddhists can't have a different meaning? If black people feel that the flag is racist and hateful and get to decide its meaning, how come they get to lose their minds when someone says that BLM is racist and exclusionary?

That's slippery. "Society?" It' kinda like "they." If society decides a particular symbol isn't appropriate, it doesn't change the meanin for anyone. The original meme is about people who find the BLM name to be discriminatory being called racist because it means something else to BLM, and contrasting this to the various symbology of the Confederate flag. Who gets to determine meaning? The one who chooses the symbol or the one who finds it offensive?
