Hmm, this one is a shocker

I actually had a friend who was offered hydroxychloroquine a couple weeks back during a video appointment.
He had a cough, without a fever, and believed it was allergies.
Regardless of this he was offered hydroxychloroquine as a preventative treatment.
He refused, the Doctor didn’t object, and that was that.
But to be offered a highly controversial drug as hydroxychloroquine just because, sort of blew his mind.
Lucky for him, not a Trump supporter

What I don't understand is why HCQ would be offered (or taken) as a preventative measure at all. It's an immunosuppresive. It literally shuts your immune responses off. This is helpful when someone is under cytokine response storm and their immune system is OVER reacting and causing serious issues of inflammation among other things. However at that point its more important to help the patient by turning off their immune response. If you shut down the immune system BEFORE this situation you are open to infections because your system is basically unresponsive. It seems counter-intuitive to take HCQ for preventative measures. Actually it seems dangerous to do so.

He was taken aback by the situation, knew the consequences of taking a drug like hydroxychloroquine and refused.

Think of all those people who did except hydroxychloroquine because they BELIVE In Trump and the Doctor suggested they take it.

I'd have said "yeah do that" If Trump was right. But he wasn't and isn't...as far as I can tell.
I just don't understand how HXQ *could* be helpful as a preventative measure. No one can explain it to me.

It appears, the relevance of how “helpful” hydroxychloroquine is as a preventative measure against covid is beside the point.
As crazy as that sounds.
