In the US the word "Negro" is considered racist by just about everyone. In case you not a native US english speaker.

Fact: Obama is a negro.
Fact: The term "Magic Negro" was coined by a columnist from the very liberal LA Times and was meant as a compliment.

If you or anyone else think it's racist, I don't give a flying f-ck.
You should hear what my black friends say about Obama.

My Service Number is US-5672****. The last four are asterisks to avoid I.D. theft. I worked for Veterans at the VA for 30-years. The Veterans I worked with would not defend a draft dodger like the Pandemic President. And, they would not call people names, just because they had different viewpoints. In fact, they fought and won wars to protect their right to speak as well as the other guy's rights. We used to be proud of our diversity of thought, as opposed to the Communists in Russia and the Nazis in Germany. If someone took a strong position, that opposed one of ours, we would say, "It's a free country." Now, the pseudo patriots insult anyone whose ideas do not mirror theirs. It's a free country. Insult at will, if fthat makes you feel better.

That response was not made for you Larry, rather for giant_kek. I'm on your side lol! I commented under his response. I totally admire you and your thoughts. Him calling an ex-president a magic negro disgusts me to my core.

I was raised by a racist, and programed to be a racist. When I was a kid, Negro was the polite word one used to denote a person was Black. Prior to that the word was "Colored." Even though "Colored," is the "C" in NAACP it fell on disfavor in the early 1960s. In the late 1960s, Black became Beautiful and Negro became passe.

What it all boils down to is "intent." No matter what my Mother called a Black person, she intended them no good will. She hated all people who were not White. If someone means it as an insult, genius can be a negative label.

Regardless, if we put on the uniform or took the oath of office for a non-military type of service, we swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. That Constitution guarantees our fellow citizens the right to intend labels to be insulting or even racist. Having an unpopular position and advocating for it is one of the most American things a person can do. Unfoortunately, that means that we need to defend ideas we find disgusting.

I agree, to a certain point though. First off, I appreciate you're time and detail of your history. I agree free speech is everything, but as you mentioned times change. My grandparents always said Negro or Colored too, made me cringe, and my parents, but they said they were old, and didn't know how to phrase it properly. It's 2020, a racist is a racist, I defend free speech, but Larry, come on, they're bigots. I will not defend them. Our constitution does as far as free speech, which I believe in. But my heart cannot in true conscience.
