No, all we need to do is to put country over party, elect honest and competent leadership, and reject viral disinformation.
You don’t even have to go that far back in our history to find a Republican Party that did all of these things. Reagan was misguided in some ways, but patriotic to the core and led a successful moral and military pressure campaign against the USSR.
Bush Jr. was less than competent and kind of a dope, the Iraq War was a a colossal failure, but similarly he at least made decisions with the country in mind and was open to being corrected and apologizing. He was not a hyperpartisan Democratic Party-scapegoating narcissist. In everything Trump says and does, he is just the opposite.
Bush Sr. was I think the most admirable president of either party we have had in the modern era, the way he successfully managed complex international crises like the breakup of the USSR and the Gulf War. This set the stage for Clinton and the rest of the 90’s which was in many ways America at its finest. Everyone who interacted with him remembers Bush Sr. as an absolute class act.
The U.S. federal government is really not that big or menacing compared to other countries. It’s just that a lot of folks have been taught to reflexively hate it.
