Bill Gates is worth an estimated 102 billion. 42 million represents the same percentage of his net worth as if the average person bought a new pair of shoes.

EXACTLY. The numbers are so big it's hard to understand. 102 Billion. If you make 100K a year, you would have to work for over a million years (saving every penny) to have as much as Gates. I think this is less about climate change and more about having so much money you just don't give a shit. His kind of wealth is like the difference between the atomic and the planetary - not just a difference of scale, but of magnitude.
2 ups, 4y
Yeah, a million dollars is nothing to the mega wealthy.

When I was growing up, over 20 years ago now, I heard a saying that you never buy a beachfront house unless you have enough money to buy 2 ( in case something happens to the first one).

I love it when anti-global warming memes implicitly acknowledge the underlying science

Anyway: Fighting climate change in order to protect your beachfront home seems like sound, self-interested logic to me

Hope this helps

...and Obama just bought his oceanfront property on Martha’s Vineyard last year. Both of their investments came long after their activism.

Anyway: Buying oceanfront property long AFTER crying about rising sea levels for years appears a bit suspicious and hypocritical to me. If they truly believe the “underlying science”, who in their right mind would spend $12M (Obama) or $43M (Gates) on property that’s going to be underwater and worthless in twelve years?

Hope this helps

Because living by the ocean is fun? Liberals and conservatives both enjoy it.

As for me, I wouldn’t choose to buy oceanfront property unless I had an obscene amount of money.

Guess what: Bill Gates does!

I’ve walked the beach in front of Gates’ new property many times. His perimeter wall is about 75’ away from the average high tide mark. Even the world’s second richest man would just rent a place like that instead of buying it IF THEY BELIEVED it would be underwater soon. But keep on blindly justifying their positions. They need more soldiers.

wow. just when you thought youve heard it all... yes , its supposed to go up 75 feet in 30 years. where are our schools? -smh. gates makes more than enough to buy the place in cash..... in TWO DAYS..... gawd. would you spend the 40 bucks you made in two days to buy a house? shadddup already.

yes he should save the 2 days pay and live in sh fly over over country just because we have sea level rise that in 50+ years might be in his backyard. and to keep you idiots from crying like little girls. you are a joke.

Please just don't. Hypocrisy is peeking out. President Trump was an idiot businessman, but Gates is a genius who can do no wrong?

One inherited his money (and lost much of it), the other is a self made billionaire?
Not that they would lie to you, it's only one or the other. It's always only one or the other, yes?

He started with a million dollars. He lost much of his money. He ended up with billions. Your logic is odd.

Because your convoluted tale based on the hearsay of one self adulating buffoon of a snake oil salesman is - what's that word - logic?

I can deny Bill Gates has a lot of money. Does that make it true?
1 up, 4y,
2 replies
Of course not, because it's documented.

What's NOT documented is that Trump ever had anything even approaching a billion. The only source for that is Trump himself.

He didn't start with a million, his father gave him that for his first investment in his father's company which he made Trump president of fresh out of school.
He got about $414 million from his father over.
Given the bankruptcies, failed (and failing) businesses from casinos to steak and wine and oh yeah, airlines, doubtful he has much of the 414 left.

I begin to get bored with this as it is old news?

Yes, an easy search would, so do it:

⛔ Show me these supposed legit sources that confirms this billions Trump (who still hasn't shown his tax returns) has.

⛔ What happened to Trump's charity? How was it funded before ordered by court to close?

⛔ The Gates Foundation is worth what? From which billionaire did it get its initial funding? (HINT: Rhymes with "Gates")
0 ups, 4y
No sources means what you say is purely conjecture. I gave a source that has reported Pres. Trump's net worth as between 2 and 4 billion consistently over the last several years. If you want to ignore that, it's your choice.

I don't do links, and he hasn't released his tax returns, so no.

You have a link for millions of taxpayer dollar for a day of him golfing at his own resorts?

Lol if you have no sources I suppose this conversation can't go any further.
0 ups, 4y
Lol lol lol lol lol

Sources for what?

Did Trump release his tax returns?
Do you have documentation of his worth?
Do you still not know how Trump's charity was funded?
Do you still not know how why Trump's charity was ended?
Do you still not know with whose billions the Gates Foundation was founded?

Just skip the rhetorical bs which is merely a means for you to holler "FAKE NEWZ lol" and just look it up already since apparently you landed on Earth yesterday.

You obviously don't have sources, hence never "doing" links.
0 ups, 4y
Sources for what?

I don't do YOUR links - links from lazy putzes who can't form a cogent 'argument' (in this case, posting a simple number, a number which doesn't exist anyways) on their own. Why would I be on this site having a discussion with someone if I was going to go offsite to do their homework for them? Cut out the middle dolt and just read what I want on my own, or on this case, not needed.

I gave you a link on the subject I was speaking of. If you want to come to a conclusion with no sources that's your choice.
0 ups, 4y
I don't do links STILL.
How can you expect me to be arsed to do your homweork for you when you're too lazy to do it yourself?
Post the verifide numbers and be done with it.

I don’t know anyone who wants to live there. If you did, probably ask for a discount.

Maybe Bill Gates did get a bargain. Although I think in general, oceanfront real estate is overvalued.

I’m no expert on the CA real estate market, but I know oceanfront property gets ridiculously expensive.

I guess when you’re absurdly wealthy, you can do that. Otherwise the money just sits in the bank. Where’s the fun in that?

Still a better investment than yachts or whatever. Those are big money-sinks.
2 ups, 4y
Yes, spending money just to free it from the vault is how they become millionaires.
