Do you have any suggestions that you think would improve the situation?

My suggestion at the beginning was not to separate all the streams, but that kinda happened. I adapted ... But the idea I have at this point would be maybe bringing the comment timer back and hopefully discouraging users from posting comment after endless comment. I realize that idea isn't a popular one, but my other idea would be to possibly have a comment limit on each meme each day. Example: If someone were to comment on this meme here, they would only be allowed to comment 5 times each day on the meme. It might cut down on the endless 10 year old bickering about who's meme is better, etc.

Also, maybe just not featuring "beg for upvote" memes unless they're on a stream outside of the "fun" stream.

What good would timers and limits do? The best thing we can do is just ignore comments from trolls. If they don’t get feedback, it takes the air out of their sail. For those who want to debate, let them. In the mean time, just collapse the comment chain or keep scrolling.

My problem isn't the trolls and such. I can handle them. The problem I have is the so-called fun stream being overrun by 13 year old kids who post this garbage and it gets all the attention when real good memes are buried never to be seen by most.

The reason these dumb memes make the front page all the time is because there's an army of these emo kids that join together and mass upvote them. They aren't getting to the front page organically. And then when they reach the front page, there's always idiotic fights in the comment stream.

Too bad the Mods aren’t more discriminating of what they feature. They even approve submissions that blatantly ignore their own TOS.

Will think about the timers

The comment timers really have nothing to do with the fact that the site is over run with children. LITERALLY. I do not think punishing everyone because these kids are running amok is the answer. I think a comment BAN/ submitting memes would be much more effective. When people post comments and memes along the lines of what has been mentioned here, ban them for 30 days. After so many bans, say... 3. Terminate their account and ban the email address they used to prevent reopening another account. Being forced to create new email addresses everytime a new account is made is a huge pain in the rear. People will stop this nonsense dramatically under such terms.

true a punishment system would be good but a instant 30 day ban seems a little too extreme what about levels of bans:

first chance/level; a warning
2nd chance/level; a warning
3rd chance/level: a week long BAN
4th; 2 weak ban
5-8; month long ban
9-11 ; account restriction
12+: account deleted

No where did I say "instant".

sorry, I misunderstood but do you agree?

No. I do not. I think that is TOO many warning levels. Too me that's the equivalent of these parents you see warning their kids over and over with no consequence. And yes, what you say below about kids on the site is about why I am non existent here anymore. As a mother I would never want my kids roaming in to a site like this knowing what goes on. It can get really raunchy and I honestly feel that anyone under the age of 16 should not be in here at all. But we can't do anything about it. I hate meming with someone and suddenly realizing they are just a kid. It's just too risky in that regard.

I agree with you, but I also worry about how much work someone has done on this website,but-then again it would be a good lesson to them

I figure if someone is a more serious memer who cares about their creations and connections they have made they will not venture to jeopardize that. Unless of course they are wise enough to save their memes elsewhere.

right

what worries me is kids are able to find inappropriate things on the web with out that much stopping them

Believe it or not, people do create new email accounts regularly in order to continue posting unwanted things on Imgflip. 30 day bans would be similar to deleting accounts, which we already do when users regularly violate terms of service.

The problem though is that we can't really ban accounts for a lot of the stuff that is disliked, because it's not against our terms of service. Being immature isn't a violation, so we won't delete those accounts. It's just something that everyone goes through and so with users on the site under 18, we'll definitely encounter some immaturity.

We wouldn't want to punish people using the site normally. I think there is something to the whole back-and-forth comment thing that happens on Imgflip though. Often times, two users will essentially message each other back and forth using the comment section for about 30 comments. This obviously isn't helpful to users other than themselves. One way to alleviate this would be adding private messaging, another way would be limiting the number of comments per image when it's a simple back-and-forth that no one else wants to see. Open to more ideas.

I am aware that we have people with MULTIPLE accounts. Which is why I mentioned the banning of an email address entirely. People tossed around the idea of an IP ban. Which I wasn't ever actually for, but I may be changing my mind about that. And nope. Being "immature' isn't against the terms of service. But constant suicide threats should be. This USED to be a great place for most people to gather and blow off steam in a good hearty meme battle. Those days are gone never to return. We are now inundated with children. I have seen 8 year olds on this site for God'a sake. Lengthy comment threads consisting of nothing other than "Yeet" , IKR" "yeah" "etc.. Lengthy comment threads for the purposes of *Meaningful* communication are not an issue for most of us. At any rate this is the steaming pile of crap we are left with here. The site has gone drastically downhill, most regular and longtime users barely even come in anymore and if they do it's sporadic.I pop in a couple of times a week but don't do much here anymore because the pleasure is gone. Do with that whatever you will.

Thanks for the feedback.

The number of Imgflip users and community activity has been growing, so we'll feel some growth changes regardless, some good some bad. Hopefully having multiple streams allows many different types of community to flourish.

Sorry, not trying to beat a dead horse here... but this endless stream thing is another irritation. And yeah, the site has grown... with the presence of children, There is not a solution to this. There just isn't. People who don't like the crowd here are leaving and that's about all they can do. Anyhoo, just figured I would toss my two cents in here.
