There are so many ways of looking at law. One way - first making clear that I am on KylieFan's side, is that, generally, in the first world countries a hopeful system of trying to make very difficult situations stick together. It is always so far, except in a couple of very lucky countries, inadequate, hypocritical, abusive, tyrannical and a long of list of other words.
The legal system in America takes in dysfunctional dangerous sinister and perverted people, as well as very good people, with tragic stories; say a man that defends his woman's honour in a bar by crushing some guy's skull in, and often makes them worse with more criminal knowledge and released/ unleashed back into society.
Of course the duty of a defence lawyer is to protect the innocent from unfair prosecution, conviction and incarceration. And they are there to manage people who did do the things they are accused of; it's a cooperation of the various stakeholders in that situation. And it is always so lacking and defence lawyers can often be the mothers of the situation trying to do the best they can.
I don't agree with your elitist opinions timber. There certainly is Elitism in the world however the legal systems are just another evolution serving that.
