https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-compared-to-flu-mortality-rates-2020-3

Mortality rates:
Flu: 0.1%
Coronavirus: Up to 3.4% (according to WHO)

Others are estimating the mortality rate at 1% or about 2%, but they're all higher than the flu

When millions of people stand to be infected, even minor differences in mortality rates make a huge difference.

You're looking at reported cases, not including asymptomatic. The WHO numbers outside of China are very different.

These numbers are being misrepresented to make it look worse than it really is.

No, I mean people who experience little to none of the expected symptoms as their bodies fight the virus.

You might want to grab a dictionary if you want to argue with me.

... and can spread the virus around without suspicion. You might want to read up on how this whole thing works.

Anyone with an active infection is contagious - but when the immune system beats the infection, the person is no longer contagious, therefor not a carrier.

In contrast, someone with HIV is an asymptomatic carrier, they have the disease, can spread the disease - but are not made ill by it (until they are), and continue to be contagious.

Do you see the difference? Of course you don't. Your three brain cells are already occupied by "gender pronouns", "hatred for Chick-Fil-a", and "orange man bad."

Please read up on this. Because it's people like you who are not just spreading lies but possibly the virus too. There's presymptomatic, a symptomatic, and mildly symptomatic CARRIERS.

And yet you neglect to mention asymptomatic - who are rarely identified or counted among the infected, because many aren't even aware that they're sick - which is my ENTIRE F**KING POINT. It's the ENTIRE F**KING POINT of the CATO Institute piece.

The numbers the media are reporting are from an incomplete and largely unrelated dataset. In order to extrapolate from that incomplete data, you must correct the dataset. First, correct it by omitting the China data - it's irrelevant. China has a larger population of smokers than the USA, and their air quality compromises even non-smokers. Second, using the age related data - correct the dataset to count asymptomatic infections.

When you correct the dataset, the mortality rate drops like a rock - to seasonal flu levels.

What part of "Trump declared a national state of emergency" don't you understand?

That was a poor attempt at a strawman argument. If you're going to deride me for saying something, you might want to find an example of me actually saying it.

I never said it wasn't real, or a problem - I said it was being misrepresented, and over-hyped.

I'm not "attempting" to do anything. But you are clearly trying to downplay what's going on. You're claiming that people are changing the real numbers to try to make things look worse. If anything, it would seem govt leaders are trying to show lower numbers to make them look better.

You accused me of saying something that I didn't say - which is a strawman argument.

Your failure at success makes it an attempt.

Use a dictionary for the words that are not part of your vocabulary.

I said: "What part of 'Trump declared a national state of emergency' don't you understand?" If I'm accusing you of anything it's that you fail to comprehend the seriousness of the situation as you continue to downplay the threat of the corona virus. It's not a fake argument. I'm going by your own words in your comments.

It is a very little problem. The mortality rate is lower than the flu.

You idiots are panicking and blowing it out of proportion.

Also: "These numbers are being misrepresented to make it look worse than it really is."

Is this not what you said??

I see that you conveniently omitted the link. Yes, I said those things and provided evidence to back them up. You will, however, be unable to understand that evidence. For that reason, you've chosen to pretend that it doesn't exist.

I can do the math, and if you could do the math - you would see the same thing.

Something you may not be (probably aren't) considering. There has been a very closely monitored, closed environment where covid-19 was observed. The cruise ship. The members of that voyage were 40 and older. That dataset informs that the virus is deadly to aging victims. The older you are, the more vulnerable you are. It also indicated that there can be asymptomatic cases (as covered in the CATO Institute document I linked).

Chinese researchers have determined that those with respiratory distress (smokers and vapers) are also vulnerable.

The young, and healthy are most likely to be asymptomatic and NEVER counted with the infected because their symptoms are non-existent or so mild that they don't even realize that they're sick.

Extrapolating from the cruise ship passengers, factoring in age, accounting for smokers and vapers - the morbidity rate and projection dwindles.

Discussing with a physician friend of mine, I'm pretty sure I caught it in December, about 2 weeks after my wife caught it. I had the symptoms, it was like a flu with a dry cough and lasted about a week. Now I feel fine, and everyone is freaking out over nothing. My kids either never caught it, or were asymptomatic. My grandkids never caught it, or were asymptomatic.

There is plenty of information around, if you're willing to take the time to research...but you aren't. For you, it's all about "orange man bad". Some day you may realize how much time you wasted hating someone who never did anything to you.......nah - you'll wear it like a badge of honor - comparing with your friends "No - I hate Trump more!"

Do me a favor, show me how much of a child you are and say "DRUMPF" for me.....
