It existed at the time that he did what he did, and that says plenty about what kind of person he was(and likely still is). The act of supporting and sympathizing at a personal and ideological level with an enemy of the USA doesn't expire just because that enemy is no longer around. If he was willing to do it then, he's willing to do it now.
