My brother lived in Tokyo for a number of years, and while it is true the private ownership of hand guns is prohibited, you may purchase air rifles and shot guns. Many citizens do still purchase hand guns from dealers from South Korea. Likewise, gun violence between the various gangs (such as the Yakuza) still occurs, one reason otherwise law-abiding citizens seek out S. Korean dealers in order to have pistols at home in which to protect their families.

I could show you a view of my hometown and it's peaceful streets as well. And we have open carry. It isn't uncommon to see someone with a pistol on their hip.

Your picture of a gun free society is a bunch of buildings. I guess there are no people in such a society.

I lived in Japan for about one year. That is a very regimented society with strict laws regarding crime, drugs, immigration and other regulation. If you believe you can get the USA to change that much, my hat is off to you.

It would require a total transformation on many issues, not just guns. But if other first-world countries (not just Japan) have shown it’s possible, then it’s reckless not to try.

I believe one of the reasons criminals in the U.S. often resort to gun violence is the lax penalties routinely given the convicted (whatever their crime). The Japanese judicial system is not hampered by liberal bleeding heart lawmakers. If our judicial system was like this, it is very possible criminals would think twice before behaving like savages.
