No offense taken... Well the donuts I know are fully dough covered with something. These are actually very then when it comes to the dough layer (about 1 or 2 millimeter... 2 like on the picture is rare though), and it's filled with sweetened whipped cream. And the picture shows one cut in two...

I actually don't know what's all the fuss about... My friends all love them but I tried and wasn't very impressed... then again, I'm not really a fan of desert food in general. 🀷

Not sure if I would call it "desert", as they are mostly eaten in some kind of celebration. Of course it's nothing more but sweetened whipped cream with a thin layer of dough and a chocolate cover, but still I love them ;)

Yeah, I wasn't really sure how to define it... But I also don't really enjoy cakes or tarts... or chocolate glaze for that matter... 🀷

Then I guess, this is indeed not the snack for you... :(

No, probably not. πŸ˜… But I still love the Netherlands for other delicious food. 😁 Frikandellen, pannekoeken, kibbeling,... nom! Can't wait for this summer when I'll finally get to go again. β™₯️

Ah, you are more the fat kinda guy.... Hahaha! Something I used to love, but that I am a bit afraid to take since they removed my gallbladder last month is frikandel-speciaal... Frikandel completely submerged under mayonaise, ketchup or curry and a layer of chopped onions. Have you also tried kroket, or bitterballen? Or Mexicano? And since you like pannekoeken, have you also tried poffertjes? And perhaps you should come around new years eve to try our oliebollen. Maybe you like them too. ;)

*looking at my belly* I guess I am the fat kinda guy... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Bitterballen weren't quite what I hoped they would be and I haven't tried Mexicano, I think... But kroket and poffertjes were included in the "..." earlier. πŸ˜‰ And so far I haven't been to the Netherlands around new years but I'll keep it in mind. 😁

Bitterballen are mostly popular during long TV shows... Like the Eurovision Song Contest. When a boring entry comes, let's go to the kitchen fry some bitterballen, and hopefully they are ready when a good song comes so we can enjoy them while eating bitterballen. Some talent shows also. Frying bitterballen is a popular excuse to "miss" the commercial breaks.

And bitterballen are also quote often served on party tables in general as a quick snack.

Haha, here in Germany we usually "get a beer" to avoid commercial breaks or bad songs or whatever. But since my wife and I usually don't watch live tv anymore apart from sports we get around that anyway. But it's certainly an understandable practice. πŸ˜‚

Yeah.... Getting a beer is just opening the fridge getting a bottle out and closing it... Frying bitterballen takes a bit longer, but if somebody says "tijd voor bitterballen", the you know we are in the least interesting portion of a broadcast 🀣
I watch little TV.... The news, I watch as I wanna stay up-to-date, and "Wie is de Mol?" which is now each Saturday on NPO 1... But both don't have commercial breaks.

Linda de Mol? Is she still happening? πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ
1 up, 5y
Ohhh πŸ˜‚πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ I looked up "Wie is de Mol" - It's about someone being a mole. πŸ™ˆ I thought it was about or with Linda de Mol and it was just a pun on her name. πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ

I must say I haven't seen Linda in awhile, but I watch little TV these days. She is still active though. I nearly forgot how popular she was in Germany. Rudi Carell was a Dutch guy who also had quite some fame in Germany (although he's no longer with us). And do you know Jan Smit? He is said to have quite a singing career in Germany.

Okay, my turn to name a German who made it in the Netherlands and then Dennie Christian comes to mind. His songs are not fully my style, but in the Netherlands he's really appreciated for his mastery over the Dutch language that he speaks nearly without any accent or notable grammar errors.

I've heard the name Jan Smit but I don't think I've actually heard him sing... And I have never heard of Dennie Christian at all. πŸ˜‚ But, yeah, Rudi Carell was huge over here. Will never forget him.
2 ups, 5y
Maybe Dennie isn't as active anymore as he used to be, he must be around 64 by now ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennie_Christian ). Funny, that I know a German celebrity that you, as a German, don't. It's NOT that I am a fan of his though. But then again Henriette Heichel is a Dutch woman, part of the German band Dschinghis Khan (famous for: Moskau, Moskau, wierf die GlΓ€zer an der Wand, Rusland is ein schΓΆnes Land hohohohoho) does not even have a page on the Dutch version of Wikipedia... Funny how things go, eh?

They also taste good, at least, that's my opinion. Of course, for a healthy diet they are less good, but to take one once in a (long) while, shouldn't be that bad, right?
