Yeah, a veteran that never left the compound or saw any action. Not exactly Rambo.

How'd you guys treat Flynn, btw?

And, you were there, in Kabul with him. So, you know this to be true? He did not serve in direct combat. But, most people in the armed forces do not. In five years in the Air Force working for NSA, my brother did not leave a military base. But, he intercepted and decoded Chinese Military messages, that were important. My time in the Army was spent mostly tearing down buildings in Northern California. My best friend spent most of his Marine Corps enlistment counting everything from typewriters at Nixon's West Coast White House, to damaged vehicles at Camp Pendleton. Are you going to say that we are somehow deficient? According to the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program about 15% of all Vietnam Veterans served in combat or combat support. Are we not supposed to support the other 85% of our troops. I respect people who did not serve. Not everyone is fit for active duty or would benefit from the experience. I respect everyone who served. I have no respect for people who did not serve and disparage those who did, but disagree with them politically.

As for General Flynn, he was convicted in a Federal Court of breaking the law, unrelated to his active duty service. I respect his service and admire him for rising as high as he did and accomplshing what he did.

Which guys are you lumping me in with?

All I said is he wasn't Rambo. Most people probably think he was in combat. Nothing wrong with not being in it but most don't use their service for political gain.

Flynn was screwed in court. Look into it.

Pete wrote in his book that he never was in combat. I don't know how it could be said any clearer. But, he did venture outside of the safety of the base over 100-times, again according to his book.

I never met someone who was convicted of a crime who, admitted that they did the crime. Flynn is no different. He was given the opportunity to defend himself in court and was found guilty. Not by me. Not by the Democratic Party. By a jury. I like Lori Laughlin. She may go to jail. I will feel bad about that. But, I won't blame the system. That is the way I feel about the General. It is too bad that he broke the law.

Oh, I don't expect Pete to go on about it, but the media should mention that here and there.

The FBI altered an email from Carter Page to manipulate the FISA court. If Flynn is getting bust for perjury, why not Comey? He testified that they didn't rely on the Steele report in getting permission to spy on Trump's team. The DOJ wanted 9 years for Stone. You're going to tell me those going after Trump are held to the same standards as those working for Trump?

I read a story about the sentencing recommendations, before the flap. The Justice Department has a things called "Sentencing Guidelines." These suggest what appear to be appropriate sentences for specific crimes, and the various degrees of each. This story said that the 7-9-year recommended sentence was within the guidelines for the handful of felonies Stone was convicted of. The Sentencing Guidelines are used hundreds, possibly thousands of times a year. Judges expect to see them in the files they read. This is a way that they make sure that fairness is part of the process, But, this is classic Trump. He has fired up the base to ovrwhelmingly support him when he pardons Stone. Trust me, Stone knows too much for Trump to not pardon him,

Soooo, rape and assault gets a few years. Perjury, in this case a victimless crime brought on by a hoax investigation should get 9 years. Ooooooookay.
0 ups, 5y
Have you read the sentencing guidelines? Addding all the things he was found guilty of doing, they say that he could get up to 108 months or 9-years. The guidelines allowed for 62-months as an "enahncement," meant to discourage the witness tampering Stone committed. The judge could ignore or modify this five year part of the overall sentence. But, the judge has not tipped her hand, as to whether she will be lenient for a guy who could spend his last days behind bars, if she throws the book at him.

Are you still defending Flynn, after his speech last night? He said Vindman was doing his duty and that Trump used military aid to blackmail Zelensky, among other things. He is not one of Donnie's biggest fans, it would seem. And, it appears that his treatment of Vindman pushed the General too far. I wonder how fast the heads of the Toadies for Trump are spinning this morning.

I don't care what his personal opinion is. He got screwed in court. Gee, I guess I should be as partisan as you!
0 ups, 5y
If you were as "partisan," as me, you would be more like Romney than Trump. I am not anti-Republican. I am just, anti-Trump.

So if you criticize what someone says who has more melanin in their skin, you're a racist. Criticize what someone says who is gay and you're a homophobe. Looks like the best way to win any discussion on differing opinions is to be labeled anything but an American. Ideas do matter, and that's the issue with Peter. He's the one cashing in on being gay.

Yeah, that was the problem with McCain... everyone acted like he should get a pass for his post-military lunacy because he was in the military... Well everyone on the left who loved his insanity.

I was a POW coordinator in one of my jobs with the VA. In another job, I also worked closely with my boss Everett Alvarez, the longest held POW in Vietnam and a Republican political appointee. You are not fit to hold the coat of any ex-POW. They all suffered pain beyond what any one of us can imagine. McCain's arms were mangled so badly when he was shot down over North Vietnam that he was in escruciating pain until the day he died. But, I dare you to accuse him of lunacy in the presence of a living POW. Admiral Stockdale won the Medal of Honor for his acts as a POW. He mutilated his own face to keep from being used in a communist propoganda film. He would kick your ass for saying anything about McCain. One of them summed up people like you, for me. You are a Jane Fonda of the right wing. You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground on the subject, yet use POWs to advance your extreme political beliefs.

And here comes the ignorance.

Pay attention...

Thankful for the service. True appreciation for bravery as POW or even just serving. And no, I'm not fit to hold their coat and neither are you.

However, Post-Service treachery like McCain committed is still just that. Treachery. Does not get or deserve a pass. Other servicefolk and POWs who actually love their country would agree with me. Ignorant ones would take offense.

Get a clue.

I don't need a clue. I have actual experience with real POWs. I have met and talked to hundreds of them. I was there when they stood up and turned their backs on Tom Turnage, Reagan's head of the VA, at their national convention in Las Vegas, a number of years ago. That Shunning of Reagan was done by guys who probably were overwhelingly Republicans. As a major exPOW leader told me years later, they survived being a prisoner by developing a healthy disrespect for authority figures. The POW's I have met would not waste a minute on you. I have seen them turn and walk away from people like you at events. Shunning unworthy people is the strongest tool they had as prisoners. It is the biggest insult from them. For you to compare your love for country to people who have sacrificed as much as they have and call them ignorant if they disagree with you, wins you the Jane Fonda award. From now on, I will refer to you as Jane Fonda Kikitchens.
