The original reason for homophobia was that Catholics (and other religions) wanted as many followers to their religion as possible, and tried maintaining that by making sure everyone was having babies. Gay, Trans, and other lgbtq+ people couldn't have babies, and since Catholics wanted more people to follow them, they made it seem like it was a sin, something bad. So that's why people like you would see pride as bad. But being gay never hurt anyone.

That's a common theory but I feel there's not much evidence for it. If Catholics really did it for followers wouldn't they change the belief because the majority of people today believe that it's OK to be gay. I also like to say that I hate the term "homophobia" because I'm not afraid of gay people although I'm usually uncomfortable around them. I'd also like to say you were right to say that being gay never hurt anyone. I believe it's one of the most important issues right now but for sure not the most important issue (in my opinion the most important issue is abortion).

That's pretty vague. That's like saying "bad is bad" or "blue is blue".

Don't forget the best one of all, imo, which is: this is this.

So, why do you hate gay people? Based on your meme, it would seem to have its roots in your religious beliefs. Even so, aren't you taught to hate the behavior, but love the person?

First I'd like to say you've been very respectful and actually said something sensible instead of the usual "You're wrong and a hater, burn in Hell". You seem like a nice person and I address all my arguments with respect because you seem willing to respect my opinion whether you agree with it or not.
1.I DON"T hate gay people, transgenders, lesbians, queers, or any LGBTQ person. As a Catholic I
believe that every human being from conception to natural death is made in the image and
likeness of God.
2.I DO hate the behavior but NOT the person. As a Catholic I have often been asked the age-old
question "If God is truly good why does He allow bad to happen?". I answer with God loves
everyone whether they make the right choices or not and respects everyone's free will.
3.I love everyone because I as a Catholic strive to be like God who, as I mentioned, loves everyone.
4.You know that I think it's wrong but you don't know why. Well you may know the Christian creation
story from the book of Genesis. God created man and woman to "be fruitful and multiply". True
love is between a man and a woman. Marriage is meant to be the joining of a male and a female
to help each other grow in holiness.
5.Sorry if I gave the impression I hated gays and lesbians. I didn't mean to give that message off.
6.Thank you if you read this far, I appreciate if you did. I'll bet you did because my first impression of
you was a nice person who was willing to listen even if I said something you thought was wrong or
just plain dumb. Thanks again.
7.Seven is the number of perfection in the Bible so I wanted to make it to at least 7. I'll pray for you,
just a general prayer for your well-being and health have a blessed Thursday.
God bless,

So you are basically saying that you don't hate lgbtq+ people, just what they are and what they do. You can't sugarcoat it.

Thanks for your opening comment. I suspect we may agree on some issues, although probably not religion. Still, I respect religious beliefs and the people who hold them. Unless of course they turn out to be a lyin' dog faced pony soldier... then it could get ugly!

In hindsight, using the word "hate" was presumptuous. There is no explicit hatred in your meme, so I apologize for using that word. You have to know though, that my reaction may be typical of those who are not religious. So, if a meme like this could communicate all (or some) of the non-hatred points you've made, you might avoid some negative blowback, and more importantly, possibly influence others towards agreeing with you. I know, it's hard to communicate all that in the meme format. Plus, it may not make any real difference in how some people (e.g. MrMuchoFat) react.

Your points are well reasoned, imo, although faith-based reasoning and me... we usually go in opposite directions. I'm more of a fact-based person, and faith means belief without certain proof. So that's where we part ways.

Also, I'm a nit picker. So, when it comes to marriage, (here's more unsolicited advice) perhaps make the distinction between the marriage you described, and secular marriage. While obviously similar, they're not the same thing, imo. I suspect you feel that they cannot be separated. If so, why do / should non-religious people get married?

So, maybe try to think of it this way; secular marriage (gay or straight) in no way attempts to diminish, influence, prevent, expand, etc., religious marriage. Do you feel that it does? Some religious folks say it destroys our culture, but when I press them for the specifics of how it does that, I usually hear nothing but crickets.

Whew... just got to #6! You're welcome. Actually I've read this far because you seem intelligent, at least to the extent that I can make that assessment based on an imgflip post. I enjoy exchanging ideas with rational, calm, people, whether we agree or not. Plus, it helps me mind my manners!

No need to pray, nor offer a mass for me. I doubt it will have any impact in my life... but I have to keep it real, so I freely admit that I just don't know. I view prayer differently than I suspect most non-religious types do. I don't believe it's ineffective, I just don't think anything that seems to result from it is coming from the same source that you do.

OK, I'd just like to say you made a couple good points in that paragraph. You were right to say that my arguments would have no effects on a non-religious person because from your response I see that they didn't. I won't argue with you because from everything you've said you seem firm in what you believe which is a good thing for someone who is representing everyone who has similar beliefs as you. I don't find any use in arguing with you any further, you clearly firmly believe what you say and I respect that though I may not agree with you. You also seem very smart and logical. I could stop thinking about you it made me realize that there were smart, kind, logical people on both sides. You have me actually think about what I believe rather than just believing it. So I guess that this means goodbye until we cross paths again in another comments section of another meme. I will remember you when talking to my liberal brothers and sisters in Christ and remember that we are all souls in search for truth, beauty, and goodness. Remember that you have challenged me and that seemed impossible until now. Thank you for every single second you spent listening to me, I realize that sometimes I can be annoying because I'm constantly quoting the Bible or the Ten Commandments or some religious something-or-another. I'd also like to thank you for your input. I know you have impacted me and I hope you can say the same about me.
Sincerely,
