In the end, Dems chose a pretty narrow path, focusing just on the misconduct in Ukraine and the related obstruction.
Not even anything from the Mueller probe!
I think this was the right call, honestly.
But: it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Republicans still found every excuse known to mankind not to take the impeachment seriously.
This is a problem not just now, but going forward.
If Republicans ever feel the need to impeach a Democrat, you bet the Trump impeachment will be used as precedent
To the point that I believe impeachment is basically dead letter. A well-intentioned but, for all practical purposes, ineffective constitutional tool for holding corrupt presidents accountable.
Voters decide every four years and that is it.
