such an idiotic thought. There is nothing wrong with paying taxes to maintain the government. However, the gov't must be small and not a burden and nowhere in the Constitution does it say free healthcare, free subsidy anything. Social Security is a mess because they spent the money, they give drug addicts Disability, and the list goes on. As fior me and my house, we will not pay one cent more that we absolutely have to, that is our patriotic duty

Survey Republican taxes | image tagged in survey republican taxes | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
This was a fun one too (totally unscientific and exaggerated for laughs)

It appears that you actually fall in the blue sliver, so good for you!

With the catch that you’re gleeful to vote and exploit the tax code to reduce your personal tax burden to the greatest extent possible

Which is a pretty common attitude to have, honestly. I’m not saying it’s unusual

Straw man fallacy.

How much above your statutory tax rate do you send to the US Treasury, and you'll need to prove that by releasing your tax returns.

And don't screech about Trump; Trump isn't whining about "exploiting the tax code to reduce your personal tax burden."

Of course people should "exploit" (look! Weighted, biased language!) the tax code to reduce one's personal tax burden; the US federal gov't takes far more than it needs to execute its constitutionally mandated responsibilities.

Mr. Trump — the only U.S. President in modern history not to voluntarily release his tax returns — has also chosen to fight tooth and nail in federal court against the release of his tax returns, costing the taxpayers God knows how much in legal fees

So no, I don’t think I will. I’ll wait for your multibillionaire God-emperor to release his tax returns first, before I (a private citizen) bother to do so in order to answer your trolling questions, thanks

That said: if I ever had that much money, or even a fraction of that amount, I would not be wasting my time and effort trying to minimize my tax burden. I’d just pay it in gratitude to a country that was good to me

But clearly others don’t feel the same, as there’s a whole class of folks employed (and sometimes very well paid) to do just that for their clients

Appeal to tradition fallacy.

And, as per your usual, you fail to recognize that Trump is fighting "tooth and nail" because...watch me now, this is CRUCIAL...**OTHER PEOPLE** are fighting to have them released.

See how that works, dear?

If those people didn't fight tooth and nail to get information to which they are not legally entitled, then Trump wouldn't have to fight them tooth and nail in response.

Simple, honey.

Oh...and he's YOUR God-emperor, too.

A relatively recent article from The Hill (conservative source!) on this

Folks — and by “folks,” I mean everyone from House Democrats to the State of California to the Manhattan DA — want these tax returns released, and Trump wants them hidden, for basically the same reason. There is probably embarrassing and possibly illegal stuff in them.

But nobody really knows! That’s why they should be released!

Can you think of any reasons other than “tradition” why it might be a good idea for citizens and lawmakers to see a President’s tax returns? Any at all?

The tax rates and other sacrifices required of citizens during WWII would make your eyes water. Americans still did it because it was the right thing to do.

Here’s another one for you ImgFlip Constitutional scholars. Catch it live in the stream today!

Are you *aware* of the tax rates and other sacrifices required of citizens during WWII? It doesn't sound like it. You don't even know how climate science works, and consider fetuses to not be people, so I'm not quite sure why anyone take your word about history. I guess you're now a PhD in US History...? At the ripe old age of 30, even!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_home_front_during_World_War_II

Start here (cue your howls of “Wikipedia!!”)

What were some of those sacrifices?
—Top marginal tax rates of 81-94%
—Rationing
—Price controls
—Strong campaign to increase consumer savings through war bonds
—Victory gardens
—The draft (obviously)
—The Manhattan Project

The Greatest Generation did all that and more to win the war

There were of course those who opposed all of the above as “big government.” But bipartisan support for the war effort was pretty strong.

Could we pull off something like this today in response to anything?

When a response starts with a wikipedia citation, you know the rest of it is nonsense. Cue howls about howls about wikipedia.

Anyone can cut and paste from the discredited "source" known as wikipedia.

You did.

You're aware of that, right...?

You claim to be a lawyer. And yet, here you are, arguing with strangers on the internet, rather than cases.

You don't know anything about what I do, because I don't share that information.

On purpose.

So, get to work and do something productive.

"All socialism involves slavery. ... That which fundamentally distinguishes the slave is that he labors under coercion to satisfy another's desires. The relation admits of many gradations. Oppressive taxation is a form of slavery of the individual to the community as a whole. The essential question is — How much is he compelled to labor for other benefit than his own, and how much can he labor for his own benefit?" —Herbert Spencer (1820-1903)

You have to understand, there are people out there that actually think that taking guns from those who don't shoot other people just for the hell of it and raising your taxes so the government can steal more of your money and spend it on themselves, is a good thing. I know, it's hard to fathom.
