such an idiotic thought. There is nothing wrong with paying taxes to maintain the government. However, the gov't must be small and not a burden and nowhere in the Constitution does it say free healthcare, free subsidy anything. Social Security is a mess because they spent the money, they give drug addicts Disability, and the list goes on. As fior me and my house, we will not pay one cent more that we absolutely have to, that is our patriotic duty

Survey Republican taxes | image tagged in survey republican taxes | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
This was a fun one too (totally unscientific and exaggerated for laughs)

It appears that you actually fall in the blue sliver, so good for you!

With the catch that you’re gleeful to vote and exploit the tax code to reduce your personal tax burden to the greatest extent possible

Which is a pretty common attitude to have, honestly. I’m not saying it’s unusual

Mr. Trump — the only U.S. President in modern history not to voluntarily release his tax returns — has also chosen to fight tooth and nail in federal court against the release of his tax returns, costing the taxpayers God knows how much in legal fees

So no, I don’t think I will. I’ll wait for your multibillionaire God-emperor to release his tax returns first, before I (a private citizen) bother to do so in order to answer your trolling questions, thanks

That said: if I ever had that much money, or even a fraction of that amount, I would not be wasting my time and effort trying to minimize my tax burden. I’d just pay it in gratitude to a country that was good to me

But clearly others don’t feel the same, as there’s a whole class of folks employed (and sometimes very well paid) to do just that for their clients

A relatively recent article from The Hill (conservative source!) on this

Folks — and by “folks,” I mean everyone from House Democrats to the State of California to the Manhattan DA — want these tax returns released, and Trump wants them hidden, for basically the same reason. There is probably embarrassing and possibly illegal stuff in them.

But nobody really knows! That’s why they should be released!

Can you think of any reasons other than “tradition” why it might be a good idea for citizens and lawmakers to see a President’s tax returns? Any at all?

The tax rates and other sacrifices required of citizens during WWII would make your eyes water. Americans still did it because it was the right thing to do.

Here’s another one for you ImgFlip Constitutional scholars. Catch it live in the stream today!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_home_front_during_World_War_II

Start here (cue your howls of “Wikipedia!!”)

What were some of those sacrifices?
—Top marginal tax rates of 81-94%
—Rationing
—Price controls
—Strong campaign to increase consumer savings through war bonds
—Victory gardens
—The draft (obviously)
—The Manhattan Project

The Greatest Generation did all that and more to win the war

There were of course those who opposed all of the above as “big government.” But bipartisan support for the war effort was pretty strong.

Could we pull off something like this today in response to anything?

"All socialism involves slavery. ... That which fundamentally distinguishes the slave is that he labors under coercion to satisfy another's desires. The relation admits of many gradations. Oppressive taxation is a form of slavery of the individual to the community as a whole. The essential question is — How much is he compelled to labor for other benefit than his own, and how much can he labor for his own benefit?" —Herbert Spencer (1820-1903)

You have to understand, there are people out there that actually think that taking guns from those who don't shoot other people just for the hell of it and raising your taxes so the government can steal more of your money and spend it on themselves, is a good thing. I know, it's hard to fathom.

So you don't want anyone else to have the opportunity your kids did? Not everyone is as lucky as you. And I don't know about you, but I like my roads being paved.

ha, so they pave your roads? Mine are full of potholes. they said the Looto would pay for schools, it didn't. They said the poker machines would pay for schools and hiway maintenence, it didn't. They said more taxes would fix it, it didn't. You know why? My state is run by dumass Democrats, who steal the money at every turn
