Death | NOOOOOOOOOO!!! | image tagged in death | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I have mixed feelings. I do not smoke myself, and except for a cigarette I had to put in my mouth for an act and a cigar I used primarily to light fireworks I never smoked at all, and I prefer people who visit me to do their smoking on my balcony, and every smoker accepted that so far.

The anti-smoke lobby fears me, as I am afraid that after smoking it will be alcohol that will get an anti-lobby, and after that fat and sugar and then... well you get the picture, and I wonder what will be left. Furthermore we can see how drugs are getting more and more of a problem, and I wonder what the problem with drugs is... that stuff itself or it being illegal. Criminals go to great lengths to get their drugs sold and take great risks and become very extremely violent. And especially countries were drugs hold the death penalty those criminals are fierce (and that is BECAUSE of the chance for death row, not the other way around). Tobacco can easily become the new cocaine in that perspective.People getting shot dead because of some cigarettes sounds silly, but be honest, people getting shot dead because over a package of cocaine is not really normal either, is it.

At the same time, we cannot ignore the negative effects of smoking and even more, the damage it does to others. Being in a group of smokers and not smoking yourself damages your health as well. Not to mention people suffering from lung diseases who cannot always get out of the smoke of smokers. Not to mention I have been on birthday parties with smokers and my clothes were really stinking after those. And of course, accidental arson is possible with just a burning cigarette/cigar leftover, especially with area getting drying and drying now that the climate is changing and the world getting a bit hotter (this is likely what happened in Australia), but in some forests that danger is already there without climate change (I remember the warning sings I saw as a kid).

So I guess for both banning and not banning there are good reasons, and I think it's hard to make a good choice between the two.

I don't believe that smoking should be banned but I do think it should be prohibited in public for the reasons you outlined. I don't smoke myself and have never as much as tried it. Yet, i've often gone home with my clothing reeking of f*gs just from having walked by a few smokers in the street. The smell alone at times has been enough to make me physically nauseous.

While a ban I don't think is necessary smokers in general could be a lot more considerate of where they choose to light up.

Thanks for your response, it's great that you can argue for both sides. :D

"and I wonder what the problem with drugs is... that stuff itself or it being illegal" this could make for a good debate topic in this stream :)

I should clarify just incase you didn't know that f@gs is a slang term for cigarettes, I'm sure you probably figured that out from the context, but I wouldn't want you thinking I was making a homophobic slur ;)

I'm glad you appreciate me taking both sides of the debate, my deer... (not a typo)
I've been married before to a wife who smoked and eventually I began to worry about my health, so she did agree to smoke in the rooms were I never got, and she eventually even quit smoking (we're divorced by now, so I am single again... boohoo... smoking was not the reason, btw), and I once had to help somebody with his computer and his entire room was filled with smell of burnt cigarettes and I thought I was gonna die in there. But at the same time, in many cases I've had a choice. When outside the smoke goes away easily and then I worry less...

My former brother-in-law used to work for a cigarette manufacturer, and although he was only one of the "high boys" and not working in the halls were the cigarettes were actually made, he always stank of tobacco when he got home... So yeah, when it comes to the smell, I wouldn't mind a ban on cigarettes, although I agree, a total ban could go a bit far...

Because that worked so well for alcohol during prohibition, and other drugs. Banning things just turns them into business opportunities, and turns regular people into criminals for doing what they've always done.

No I don't think so, not entirely anyway. Banning said products has been tried before and failed miserably. However, I do think that recent bans on smoking in public buildings is great. I remember my dad would never let us go eat at Waffle House because they always allowed indoor smoking and he hated it. Now with the bans in place, I can go eat there and come away smelling like bacon instead of an ashtray, which is much more pleasant. Smoking outside though? Sure why not, I don't hold that against anyone. I used to smoke so I know how hard it is to quit, to force everyone to quit all at the same time would make the world a fairly miserable place for about 6 months till the cravings stopped. Tax the crap out of it and encourage people to quit by making it a financial burden on them while keeping our healthcare costs offset. I also include E-cigs in this category.

As someone who smokes occasionally, I may be a bit biased, but I would never support a full ban on tobacco products. I'm aware of the health risks, but I choose to have it anyway. Just because something is unhealthy doesn't mean it should be banned. If it were the case, goodbye alcohol, fast food, and vegging out. We've already tried to ban alcohol and it was a disaster.

As K has several different variants on Google and doesn't translate to anything in Pitman (search it up on Google) it could be you are being abusive or complementary at the same time...a bit like Schrödinger cat, hence the question 'What are you trying to say?'

they're a definitely noticeable problem (source: my mom was killed by cigarettes), but I think outright banning them would make it worse instead of better

remember Prohibition? yeah, we banned alcohol, and guess what? it got way worse! so they had to unban it and put a LOT of restrictions on it instead... I think that's the best option for cigarettes as well

Eh. Maybe in some places. If people want to basically kill themselves smoking, Earth is suffering from overpopulation, anyway. The problem is, though, the smoke can affect the people around them. Hurting someone else from your own poor decisions is not ok. I feel like there should be like certain neighborhoods and stuff or something like that that ban smoking. And if you want to kill yourself, go to one that accepts it. I know that's kinda stupid idea, but it popped into my head.

Sorry,I Just Wanted To Be Thorough.

No.To Ban Smoking On Private Property And When I Say Private Property I Mean You Own Youself And The Fruits Of Your Labor. And On Taxing "The Crap Out Of It", Or Government Social Engineering, You Own Yourself So Smoking Is Your Right With Your Body And On Your Property And Others Property Where They Also Allow Smoking. And Healthcare Should Be A Free Enterprise Not Government Run Or Subsidize, Just In Case That Opinion Pops Up About Cost To The Public Through Taxation,
My Answer Is Private Charities And Volunteerism, Because Bureaucracy Takes Up More Than A Third Of The Cost Of Healthcare In The U.S.A.
